Making headlines around the world, pole fitness has rapidly increased in popularity over the past few years and only keeps growing. If you’ve ever gone vertical, you know just how much strength it takes and what an amazing workout your body gets.
Celebrities such as Kate Hudson and Emma Roberts have discovered this fun and fitness-related activity, while some filmmakers have even incorporated pole into storylines of major motion pictures. But for some people, vertical fitness is their lifeblood. Simply put, it’s their source of inspiration, strength, passion, and creativity.
Yet even as pole fitness breaks down barriers every day becoming more and more mainstream, there are still plenty of skeptics who doubt the legitimacy of pole as a sport and form of fitness. Those individuals and all others, pole enthusiasts or just curious spectators, are invited to come out to the Lizard Lounge Friday evening, September 16 at 9 p.m. for the 2nd Annual Miss Texas Pole Star (MTPS) competition.
This event attracts the best of the best from all over the state of Texas competing for the win in Amateur, Fitness, Masters, and Ultimate categories. They will be judged on trick execution, creativity, individual style, athleticism and fitness, technique, and costume by a prestigious lineup of judges. This year’s celebrity judging panel includes Natasha Wang, US Pole Dance Champion 2011; Alethea Austin, US Pole Dance Champion 2010; and Larry North, owner of Larry North Fitness.
Hosted by MTPS founders, Karen Palmer and Linda Spraggins of Vertical Fitness Dallas (VFD), who have partnered with Karyn Pentecost of The Girls Room, they promise an exciting event that will not disappoint and welcome you to see for yourself what pole fitness is all about as you’re treated to a spectacular show of artistry and athleticism.
“This year, we had 45 talented pole artists and athletes enter,” said Karen and Linda. “It’s going to be an amazing competition with the 25 finalists and our celebrity judging panel.”
You can also expect special performances throughout the evening including an opening silks act from VFD instructor, Jessica Harris; a dance by professional choreographer, Cristin Caulfield, and her dance troupe; and a pole performance from the 2010 Miss Texas Pole Star Champion, Amy Henderson. The lucky crowd will also see performances by the beautiful pole artists and MTPS judges, Natasha and Alethea.
Between performances, head over to the vendor area where companies will be on-site to introduce the crowd to their products and services. Several Texas pole studios will be in attendance as well, so ask questions, make contacts, and get to know this rising sport.
General admission, VIP, and Mexxanine VIP tickets can be purchased online, but they are going quick. Last year’s event was sold out and the same is expected this year, so booking your tickets in advance is advised.
If you are one of the many attendees whose curiosity gets the best of them, classes are encouraged so you can try it out for yourself. In addition to pole fitness, VFD offers boxing, TRX Suspension Training, conditioning sessions, aerial yoga, silks, and dance classes. Alethea and Natasha will hold workshops the day after the MTPS event as well. For more information on these classes and to sign up, please visit Vertical Fitness Dallas online.
Supporters of the MTPS competition have rallied from all over the world. The generous sponsors include X-Pole, Mighty Grip, Mika Yoga Wear, Pole Fit by Bad Kitty, Pole Move Box, The Pole Story, Tiff’s Treats, SpinnyTbags, My Fit Foods, Sweet Vixen Couture, Aqua Medical Spa, Electrique Boutique, Red Sole Events, and more.
