Corsair Marine and their US Dealer Network recently announced that the 2012 Corsair Nationals and Rendezvous is coming to Solomons, Maryland on the Chesapeake Bay, July 15-17, 2012. Hosting this year’s event will be the Screwpile Lighthouse Challenge organized by the Southern Maryland Sailing Association. It is not too early to begin making plans for this fun event.
Corsair Marine has been building trailerable trimarans since 1985 with over 1,600 boats sailing around the world. The brand evolved from Ian Farrier’s original folding trimaran, the Trailertri 18, that was launched in 1974. Corsair Marine purchased all rights to Mr. Farrier’s F-series designs in 2000 when he left the company. The prominent features still remains the same today: efficient design, superb construction and engineering, planing hull configuration, high-buoyancy, incredible stability and minimal heel.
Corsair boats have become much sought after racer/cruisers. The F24’s, F-27’s, F31’s and C31 are high performance boats with several able to achieve hull speeds in excess of 20 knots. Multihull racing all across the country often have a contingency of Corsair boats dominating the class. Though when it’s time to relax and cruise the Corsairs provides ample room below for family and friends. The tramp areas on either side of the main hull also make a great place for entertaining on the water.
The Corsair Nationals want to celebrate those who are passionate for the brand by making it as much of a racing event as a rendezvous for cruisers. With the trailerability of these boats the Nationals are able to move around the country giving the fleet greater exposure while introducing more people to trimarans. The 2010 and 2011Nationals were held in Pensacola, Florida with teams coming from 14 states, Canada, and even as far as New Zealand. The 2013 regatta is already scheduled to take place in San Francisco.
The Screwpile Lighthouse Challenge is the perfect venue for the 2012 event. The regatta already attracts roughly 100 teams from the Chespeake Bay. With Corsair expecting 50 racers and cruisers the Screwpile will become one of the largest regattas on the Chesapeake Bay. That many sailors in one area will make for great after race parties.
Corsair Marine’s website will have additional information on how to register for this event. If you need hotel rooms in the area now is the time to make your reservations since they are already beginning to fill. The Holiday Inn has a block listed under Screwpile with only a few rooms left. St. Mary’s is close in proximity and could also be a viable option for accommodations. Make your plans now to attend this fun event either as a racer or a cruiser.
Corsair Marine will be at the US Sailboat Show in Annapolis October 6-10, 2001 with their DASH and the new Sprint 750 MK II models. Stop by to talk to them further about the Corsair 2012 Nationals.
