If you don’t know what “Footie” is..it’s a sports experience that you’ll wish you had known about long ago.
It’s the nickname for the Australian Football League, also known as the AFL.
Even though the names are similar, it’s not too much like the NFL. However it’s one of the most fascinating sports that you’ll ever watch. It’s a mixture of soccer, volleyball and basketball and probably a few other sports thrown in. It has its roots in aboriginal activities.
Tonight is what you could call the “Footie Finale” as the AFL has its national championship called the AFL Grand Final.
There will be dozens of Australians packed into various bars in Los Angeles tonight to watch the pinnacle of their national sport as it happens live in Australia.
One of the main gathering spots will be in West Hollywood at a party hosted by the American Australian Association:
