If you are a Christian homeschooling parent of a girl (8 to 12 years old), you’ll want to check out this God-centered writing curriculum. Created and written by Jan May, New Millennium Girls curriculum not only walks the user through the entire writing process but draws the user into an interactive experience. Here is how Jan describes the New Millennium Girls…
They believe in God and love Him with all their hearts. They love the faith adventures God brings into their lives and they meet them head on with unshakable faith. They are the girls of the Joshua generation, girls of this New Millennium, girls with a different spirit.
For this review, I used Creative Writing Made Easy! Introducing Isabel and Paper Doll and Craft Book, Isabel’s Closet.
A Writing Process Curriculum
The Creative Writing Made Easy! portion of the curriculum has been designed to easily guide the student through the writing process in easy to digest bits of instruction. It guides the student through the development of character, themes and plot, the writing (beginning, middle and end) as well as the editing and compilation of a complete story. Throughout questions are asked to stir the imagination and graphic organizers and fill-in-the-blank sections are included for the student to use.
An Interactive Curriculum
At the end of each lesson a craft time has been designed. Using the Paper Doll and Craft Book portion of the curriculum, the student will be able to make Isabel come to life through the use of paper dolls! The book includes: Isabel and 2 Princess cut outs, paper doll stands, 16 pages of clothes (to be colored) for Isabel, 16 pages of clothes (to be colored) for the Princess and 2 houses with riders. Instructions are also given on how to build a bedroom for Isabel!
A Faith-Based Curriculum
Jan has purposefully created this curriculum for Christian students. Students are guided through the process of developing a character that trusts God’s timing, protection, provision and design as well as growing in character and faith.
As a former elementary public school teacher and an experienced Christian homeschooling parent, I can easily say that I love this curriculum. It is a well designed faith-based curriculum that provides students with solid, interactive writing instruction while providing wonderful opportunities for faith-based thought and discussion.
Is it just for girls?
On the New Millennium Girls website, there is a page just for boys and later this year she will be introducing her first Christian based writing curriculum just for boys called Write a Soldier’s Story! (For more info, go to: Cool Stuff for Boys)
