When you pull into the parking lot of Ichiban Thai and Japanese Cuisine, your initial impression may be somewhat lackluster. The restaurant resides in a strip mall in the Powell community of Knoxville. However, if you allow this first impression to dissuade you from trying something fresh and new you will be missing out on something special.
The restaurant is always neat and clean, and the hostess will give you a warm welcome. The decor and ambience of the dining room sets the mood for what can be an intimate culinary experience.
This is not to imply that Ichiban is not family friendly. Children are greeted as cheerfully as adults. On the several occasions I have eaten here with the kids, the server was gracioius and accommodating. She takes the time to get to know her customers. Many times she will remember not only the diner’s name, but favorite dish.
The food at Ichiban is also well deserving of praise. If you like Asian cuisine, there is something here for you. The wide selection of sushi is always fresh and delicious. For the less adventurous type that doesn’t care for sushi, there are excellent hibachi selections, and if you enjoy the spice of life, Ichiban’s has an amazing selection of Thai dishes.
If you are feeling the pinch of the tough economy as so many of us are, have no fear. The menu at Ichiban is moderately priced and you will find that the prices are well below that of similar area restaurants, while having a food quality that is as good or better than those with more famous names. Ichiban provides excellent value for your dollar.
