For many accessory exhibitors at the recent Accessories The Show New York, at the Javits Centre September 18 – 20 2011, it was clear to see that accessories have become works of art, even as one exhibitor pointed out, “Our scarves are items of jewelry,’ and they were. Accessories can be found not just in specialized department stores but in some of the fashion conscious spas and salons around New York City.
We start with a strong made in New York company Sara Designs Inc. at 228 East 85th Street New York, NY 10028. Sara herself is such a surprise, having been in the business for over 10 years she looks so young, and has all this energy going in all directions. Everything is made in New York, her new line of watches, with a Casio movement are all designed and assembled here in New York, nothing overseas. The leather bracelets with animal prints are just perfect for resort/spa wear, just the type of product a spa would like to have in their retail area.
Haute Halos a stylish way to put your hair up at the spa, resort and salon that even have a small diamante styled clip to give the band the haute a couture look. Amanda and Donna Haynes are the girls creating the Haute Halos brand , who had not only women looking at their bands, but their male partners requesting that they get rid of those standard rubber bands attached around their wrists, and get into a new mode with stylish HauteHalos. This is the type of stylish accessorie you would expect to see in a Henri Bendel.
Now to LUA, whose scarves are often produced in limited quantities to insure that each piece is handled with care, as Pat Gough the owner of this year old company shows me her fabulous prints on creative designs, just perfect for the spa and resort “they are pieces of jewelry,” they enhance any item of day or evening wear, the colorful silk twists just fit perfectly into a glass bowl to be picked up after that great spa treatment.
Steve Madden had a clutch bag which looked ideal for cosmetics, sun protection even sunglasses one that you can take to the beach or spa that does not look like a “beach bag” this PVC and rope combination is from the Steve Madden Spring 2012 collection. Great space inside the bag, it really popped in color and looked stylish for spa and resort goers.
Accessories The Show New York had some real hidden gems for the beauty industry to add to their retail areas, and for customers to re-think leaving the spa but still looking good enough to go to lunch or dinner.
