Well-known television and film actor Ronit Roy, most famous for his role as Mihir Virani in the television series Kyunkii Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, seems to have kick started the Hindu New Year on a very unfortunate note.
The actor was arrested early Thursday morning for rash and negligent driving, after his Mercedes crashed into a moving WagonR, injuring four people. The four occupants were identified as Deepak Darera, his wife Kaanta, and his two daughters, Sneha and Pooja.
As per Amboli police station reports, Roy was on his way to his Yari Road house from a Diwali party, when he lost control of his car and rammed into Darera’s car. The accident occurred in the wee hours of the morning, near the Sab TV building at Veera Desai Road, Andheri west, Mumbai. The Darera family, residents of Andheri’s Shashtri Nagar area, were reportedly on their way to Matheran for a picnic.
Though there were no fatalities, Kaanta sustained severe injuries on her back, while Pooja received stitches on her head and Deepak hurt his hand. The injured were taken to Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani hospital in Four Bunglows, Andheri, by Roy himself. Roy left soon after.
Roy was arrested, after Sneha who received negligible injuries, filed a complaint with the Amboli police station. According to Sneha, Roy was driving at the speed of at least 100km/hour, when the incident took place.
Medical tests done on Roy after the arrest showed that he was not under the influence of any intoxicant. He was released on a bail of Rs 12,000 later in the day.
