There’s nothing like riding in the car with your mom or dad as they play BBN radio.
The high soprano and the snoringly boring baritone who sings so slowly, you want to finish his words for him (maybe that is the point?) are enough to make you want to literally pull your hair out and bang your head against the car door window.
You scrunch your ears shut trying to drown the music out and wonder if this is your fate; to listen to the same boring music as your parents in order to keep tunes like, “you know all you gotta do is tell me what your sippin’ on, and I promise that I’ll keep it comin’ all night long” or “I know that you be waitin’ for it, I’m waitin’ too, In my imagination I be all up on you…”
Not only are such lyrics an affront to grammatically correct language, they tend to make one think of sex and drugs and getting drunk to drown one’s sorrows rather that to show love and concern for others, serve the Lord, grow in wisdom, reach deep within the soul to discover what God wants for you and how you can achieve it without putting others down to get there.
Country music is not much better than pop and rap. The songs are filled with cheating, drinking, anger and even hostility towards any nation other than the nation of self, so where do you turn for uplifting Christian music that won’t make you want to plug your ears?
You could listen to classical music or praise and worship or gospel, but if you crave rock and roll and pop rock music, there is an alternative in Savannah.
If you are older and like more mellow Christian music that combines praise and worship and contemporary music, you might like His Radio, but if you are younger or are a rock and roll person at heart, there is no station better than Air1.
Air1 is a Christian radio station located in California, so unlike HIS Radio, you won’t get local coverage, or weather updates, but you also don’t get commercials. Which is really the only bad thing about both Radio stations: they hold semi-annual pledge drives that can be tiresome.
You can listen to both stations on-line. His Radio has a more powerful antenna, so can be heard outside Savannah, but Air1 is limited to about Springfield, GA and it does go out on occasion and overlap with Georgia Public Radio early in the morning at times.
Outside of that, you will discover really interesting radio announcers, upbeat music with occasional hard rock and the chance to win all sorts of prizes and influence which songs are played on the radio.
With groups like Skillet, Audio Adrenaline, Thousand Foot Krutch and Bebo Norman, you won’t miss the junk on the non-Christian radio stations one bit and may even find yourself saying, “Lady who?”, when your friends start quoting lyrics to you.
While you can always make what you want of the secular songs around you, it is hard to have a clear mind when you sabotage yourself with unclean lyrics that aren’t even civil, much less religious or uplifting.
If you are a skeptic, give either radio station a try for two weeks. You may be surprised at how listening to them exclusively will change your attitude.
Air1 also has ministers on call 24 hours a day to deal with any problems or prayers you might have. You may be a skeptic, but try it out and see and you may find, not only can you not stand to listening to boring BBN, but that your favorite secular station now makes you just as likely to want to turn it off for all the negative and mind altering content it throws at you everyday trying to convince you that there is nothing wrong with what the Bible, Christ, your parents and teachers try to warn you will only end up bringing you down, rather than lifting you up and encouraging you to focus on what God wants for your life, rather than what man wants.
