It was years of preparation that lead to Alexis DeJoria’s fantastic Pro debut in the Nitro Funny Car ranks in front of her family and friends during the AAA Texas NHRA Fall Nationals at her hometrack in Ennis, TX.
All of the runs she made in the past six years through her progression from Super Gas to Super Comp, Top Alcohol Funny to the professional Nitro licenses passes she made in one day under Del Worsham’s supervision, culminated in her first Professional debut.
De Joria blasted her Kalitta Motorsports Tequila Patron Toyota Solara to a 4.281-second elapsed time at 294.37 mph on the Texas Motorplex 1,000-foot course.
her second attempt in qualifying heated-up considerably when she ran a 4.310, 238.38 on a pass punctuated by a blower explosion and resulting fire.
Kalitta Motorsports Team Manager Jim Oberhofer is pleased with Alexis’ progress.
“She’s a fabulous race car driver, and she’s going to get better.” — Jim Oberhofer
Alexis wasn’t worried about her first passes as a professional.
“I’ve been talking about it all day and planning it for six years, I’m ready.”
The nitro rookie keeps herself busy and involved with the car between rounds by packing her own parachutes. Though she didn’t make the cut for her first race, sitting on the bump spot, she earned the respect of her nitro competitors with a solid performance that is only sure to improve.
