Amazon.com has promised to make a paid app free every day in the Amazon Appstore, and today’s app is Camera Fun Pro.
Camera Fun Pro is priced at $0.99 in the Android Market. Meanwhile, it is normally priced at $0.99 in the Amazon Appstore. As we noted previously, prices sometimes differ between the two stores.
Camera Fun Pro is described as follows:
Bring Fun Back to Photography
Bring a new level of fun and customization to your photos with unique camera effects. Camera Fun Pro allows you to apply special effects to your photos in real time. View the world around you through an X-Ray lens, or create images of canvas paintings with a single press.
Easy to Use
Camera Fun Pro opens with the camera ready to go. Simply swipe through the 29 different effects to preview what your photo will look like. If you prefer, you can customize which of the 29 effects you want to appear on the screen menu. That way, you won’t have to swipe through all 29 options when you’re taking your shots. You can also turn the flash on and off from the screen menu.
29 Special Effects
Camera Fun Pro’s unique lenses include Alphabet, Avatar, Black & White, Blueprint, Bulge, Canvas, Chalk, Chess, Color X-Ray, Emboss, Glass, Light Tunnel, Mirror, Neon, Night Vision, Oil Brush, Pinch, Pixel, Poster, Sepia, Sketch, Stretch, Swirl, Thermal, Tunnel, Vintage Sketch, Watercolor, and Wave, and X-Ray.
Even More Options
You can toggle the high resolution on and off, and do a quick preview before saving your photo. Apply these cool special effects to your existing photos in your gallery. Flip your photo upside or sideways. You can even set a photo as a contact icon. Camera Fun Pro supports front-facing cameras. (Please note only certain Android devices have a front-facing camera. Camera Fun Pro does NOT give your Android device front-facing camera capability).
Once your photos are ready for prime-time, share them with your friends via e-mail, SMS/MMS, Facebook, Picasa, Flickr, or through Bluetooth. You can also save the photo to the SD card. Camera Fun Pro can make anyone a visual effects artist.
Camera Fun Pro has a 3.9-star rating in the Android Market and a 3.0-star rating in the Amazon Appstore.
Much of the negativity around the app in the Amazon Appstore is around permissions, specifically contacts and Internet access, but those are used for sharing with contacts and Facebook. Write permissions for contacts are needed to set a photo as a contact image.
Additionally, however, the app seems to force close a lot on phones, and seems to lag on a number, as well.
Those who are considering “buying” a Free Amazon Appstore app might want to consider what it means to developers.
Amazon.com opened up the Appstore despite a lawsuit by Apple, which has previously trademarked the term “App Store.” Microsoft has filed an appeal against that trademark, saying the term is too generic. Amazon.com has responded to the lawsuit in the same manner.
