As we have been observing there is unrest in our nation. With unemployment at an all time high of 9.1 percent, and the actual count may be as much as 20% Americans are tired of the same old same old. As someone new to the Central New York Area employment is near and dear to many who live here. The ones who have not left the area because they can’t afford too or their family ties are here want to work. They really want to find employment, and be able to take care of themselves, and their families. This writer joins the ranks of many this week in New York City and all over the country who have had it with Washington DC, and the Wallstreet Crowd who continue to make money and ignore what is really happening in this country. We have said it before but election time is around the corner. Like those who band to the streets they too must vote to change the status quo in America.
The 99ers as they call themselves have come together because they have a message for those who hold elected office. Change needs to happen in order for the less fortunate to have a chance at finding employment, buying a home or for that matter getting the education they need to meet these needs. This writer finds it so hard to believe that this then becomes a Republican or Democratic issue. When are those we elect going to be on the side of those who make up the majority of Americans in this country? Where is the American dream we were all told about and yet many find that it has slipped away. More Americans get assistance from the government then ever before in our history. How does Washington sleep at night? knowing that men and women around this country can’t put food on the table or buy medication? What is it going to take to get them to make the changes that will help our nation grow as a whole. They are talking about new employment that will bring in about two million jobs? That will do very little.
As this writer has stated before retraining seems to be some of the hope of many. Also finishing the degree at colleges like Empire State College. Young and the old can beat the system if we look to help ourselves with some of these programs. Boces offer’s many programs to aspiring adults. While working on your degree one can take classes in many fields that usually are in demand, and employment is offered at the end of training. To the newly graduated class of the Utica Boces CNA program congratulations to Marcia, Chantel, Shenna, Nick, and Margarita, and this writer for a fine performance and good luck with the state exams.
This writer truly enjoyed watching the growth of the youth of America as they strive to make their lives better. With no cars for their transportation, and very little child care for some of their children they made it through walking in the rain, and whatever else life put in their way for over five weeks. Watching them reminds this writer of the simple things they desire in their lives and for their families. They are what the American Dream is all about. Doing whatever it takes in spite of what is happening. America at it’s best~! Continue the journey~! And never give up hope of making a difference. All of you have inspired me to do even more~! Thank you…
