“It’s all lies and imitation; everything and everyone”- Persona(1966) Ingmar Bergman.
It’s all an illusion; life itself. It’s not real; nothing is; everything and everyone is fake and derivative. Art is the only thing in life worth living for; that has any value. Money is an illusion and the pursuit of money for the sake of money is meaningless. Art is the only human creation that has meaning and relevance and when it is appreciated and when you see an artist create his Art; it confirms it’s human power. Anthony Vacarello is an artist; not a dressmaker. To witness his Spring 2012 collection in Paris this week is to see what an appreciation for Art & Beauty can achieve. Europeans have an appreciation for Beauty and Art, which transcends commercial interests and concerns. To understand that there is more to life than a 401K, and a stock portfolio, and a vacation home in the South of France; is to know that Art and aesthetics and the appreciation of Beauty is worth more than all the money in the world. If you have a personal aesthetic and an appreciation for Beauty; If you have this; you have everything worth living for. And it’s a great life. Just visit Europe and see with your own eyes and be honest with yourself. Why do Americans love Paris, and Rome, and Florence, and Barcelona, and Athens, and Berlin, and Prague? Why? Because the people live there have so much money? No; because they have beautiful things; that are greatly admired and appreciated.
Europeans appreciate Beauty. The ancient Greeks worshipped Beauty, which was a combination of physical & spiritual Beauty.
Americans only appreciate physical Beauty.
Beauty is not just physical Beauty. Spiritual Beauty transcends physical Beauty and the ancient Greeks understood this and this legacy has been passed down the generations in Europe; and it is a sight to behold. Go to the Parthenon!
A pretty face on the cover of a magazine is Beautiful. The truth is Beautiful too! Truth is Beauty. Spiritual Beauty is what makes us human; and it is what makes great Art.
The French are known for producing and consuming great products.
The French as a people buy quality products, and they consume quality food, and merchandise.
Anthony Vacarello put on display some good quality Ready-To-Wear clothing that enthralled the buying retail fashion editors, and buyers, and fashion editors, who attended the show. Every model wanted to be in his show. His stuff is selling; and everyone wants to be a part of his aesthetic and his uniqueness that is very compelling, and Beautiful. I had the privilege of meeting him briefly here in San Francisco when he attended the Arts of Fashion Foundation student competion back in December 2011. His humility was what struck me the most. He seemed so humble; and yet you knew how talented he was. Humility is a sign of greatness. You don’t need to be arrogant when you have that much talent; it speaks for itself.
