“A spike in crime over the past few weeks while New York City policemen and women have been diverted to deal with the on-going Occupy Wall Street protest prove that Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s anti-gun policies are working against law-abiding citizens who cannot protect themselves from crimes of opportunity,” the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms claimed in a press statement yesterday.
The New York Post reported over the weekend that the number of people shot went up 154 percent for a one week period, which is more than double the number of people shot during the same week last year, and overall jumped 28 percent during the past month.
So much for the Big Apple’s draconian “gun control” edicts protecting citizens from this sort of thing.
Bloomberg, of course, is notorious as a leading gungrabber, and while his flagship mayor’s organization hides behind the word “illegal,” their words and deeds prove they would just as soon most guns and carrying be just that—illegal—with the exception of an anointed few, including a handful of well-heeled luminaries and celebrities, Bloomberg’s taxpayer-funded bodyguard detail, and of course, the police.
“Only Ones” all, deemed more trustworthy by hizzoner and his cadre of a disproportionate number of criminal elites than we commoners to keep and bear arms.
Speaking of bodyguards, aside from the ones the mayor took with him to Bermuda where they were armed when even most police there are not, there’s been no resolution yet on Bloomberg protector Leopold McLean, charged with attempted murder and accused of a cover-up/lying to investigators as to the circumstances surrounding his shooting a fleeing unarmed man in the buttocks—a decision on motions is scheduled for tomorrow.
And speaking of Bloomberg’s finest, let’s see how they’ve been earning their exclusive trust of late.
From The New York Times, itself one of the most rabid proponents of “Only Oneism”:
Eight current and former New York Police Department officers were arrested early Tuesday on federal charges including gun trafficking…And the arrests come at a difficult time for a department already besieged by corruption allegations large and small…
Go ahead and read this some of them….planting drugs on suspects and lying under oath… nice.
From The New York Daily News, no slouch itself on regularly stumping for “gun control”:
First grader brings gun to school after ex-NYPD mom forgets she put it in daughter’s backpack
And she’s married to a current captain. First off, how the hell do you retire at age 46? Second, why would an experienced professional chose a .25? And last but not least, in fact, I’d be surprised if there were any other outcome:
Brioso wasn’t charged in the incident…
From the Associated Press, via ABC 7:
Federal prosecutors have accused a New York City police officer of falsely arresting a black man based on race.
And they intercepted a phone call where he bragged about it, using racial slurs? And they have separate extortion and wire fraud charges on the guy?
And from Fox News:
A teacher walking to work Friday morning was grabbed off a residential street by a drunken off-duty police officer, who walked her several blocks into an apartment building’s deserted backyard and raped her, authorities said.
And it may not have been his first time…?
Bloomberg and his ilk have no rational or moral ground to stand on.
I could go on, but the point is made—not to “bash cops,” as some monopoly of violence fascists/police state apologists accuse, but to simply document that the badge does not automatically make a person more trustworthy or better qualified than we peaceable gun owners. And as for those who would dismiss this as “a few bad apples,” admittedly, out of the 35,000+ full-time and 4,500 auxiliary officers on the force, these few recently-documented reports represent a small percentage.
But then again, just look at what the dishonest citizen disarmament fanatics do to make the case that gun-owning citizens–who jump through all the hoops to carry firearms for self-defense–are a murderous threat because of anecdotal incidents involving an even smaller percentage of the total population of concealed carriers .
Which prompts me to repeat my challenge:
And any time Josh Sugarmann wants to match his “Concealed Carry Killers” anecdotes against my “Only Ones” archive, let’s dance.
About “The Only Ones”: The purpose of this feature has never been to bash cops. The only reason I do this is to amass a credible body of evidence to present when those who would deny our right to keep and bear arms use the argument that only government enforcers are professional and trained enough to do so safely and responsibly. And it’s also used to illustrate when those of official status, rank or privilege, both in law enforcement and in some other government position, get special breaks not available to we commoners, particularly (but not exclusively) when they’re involved in gun-related incidents.
