Atlanta police shot an armed robbery suspect who emerged out his vehicle, firing at officers in northeast Atlanta.
The shooting happened shortly after 10:15 p.m. Tuesday in the area of 633 Parkway Drive, police spokeswoman Ms. Kim Jones said.
The driver of a Nissan van robbed at least two pedestrians in the area of 8th and Myrtle streets earlier that night and officers were on the lookout for the van, Ms. Jones said.
Officers spotted the vehicle on Parkway Drive and initiated a traffic stop, Ms. Jones said.
“Once the vehicle stopped the driver emerged discharging a firearm in the direction of the two police officers,” Ms. Jones said. “Both officers returned fire, striking him in his midsection.”
Emergency workers transported the man to Grady Memorial Hospital where the shooter underwent immediate care, Ms. Jones said.
His condition was not available Friday and police have not released his name.
Neither of the officers were injured in the shooting, Ms. Jones said.
