It was just announced that Los Angeles area gamers that preorder Assassin’s Creed: Revelations from Best Buy will receive an exclusive multiplayer character, the Crusader, shown a few weeks ago at Gamescom and PAX. The good news from Ubisoft doesn’t end there though. The beta, originally only for Playstation Plus subscribers is now open to all Playstation Network users on the Playstation 3. Also originally scheduled to end Sunday, the beta will now run through September 17th although, space is reportedly limited. So download it, right away!
The new multiplayer beta for Revelations is deeper and seems a little quicker paced than Brotherhood is. Nine characters are available in the beta which, are all unlocked for your use at the outset. Though they share the same overall behavior, their weapons and animations differ and their ability sets are customizable. The Sentinel uses a Long Katar, The Vanguard favors a Small Axe, The Guardian carries a Lance, The Vizier swings a Sword, The Thespian hides a Dagger, the Deacon wields a Long Sword, The Bombardier pummels with a Mace, the Trickster also uses a Dagger and The Champion hacks foes with the Small Axe.
Three maps are available in the BETA. Be sure to pay attention to their lay-outs in-game as these maps have been tuned to allow more strategy than those in Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood (it’s easier to break line-of-sight, for example.) Additionally, four modes are available in the beta. Two of these modes are returning favorites from Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood, while the other two are brand new modes designed in response to player feedback. In Wanted, Your objective is to kill your designated TARGETS and avoid being killed by your PURSUERS. The higher you rank, the more PURSUERS will hunt you. In Manhunt, each team takes turns pursuing the other team. You can work together to kill your targets or hide with your allies and survive.
The new Deathmatch has you find and kill assigned TARGETS and avoid being killed by your PURSUERS. Templars compete in a small area without triggering CHASES and your COMPASS has been deactivated. In this mode, only one of each character type walks the map, so TARGETS are easy to spot. Also new is, Artifact Assault where your objective is to score by stealing the enemy’s artifact from their base and carrying it back to yours (Capture the Flag.) When you’re in your territory, you are a PURSUER and can kill opponents, but once you move into enemy territory, you become a TARGET and can be killed. The team with the highest score wins.
The Assassin’s Creed: Revelations beta is surprisingly deep. It offers new abilities, perks, streaks and loss bonuses. Characters are also customizable and your performance is even tracked on leaderboards. This and much more wait for Playstation 3 owners quick enough to jump on this beta a couple of months before the game’s release.
