October is an exciting month for the thousands of Kansas City area kids and families because not only will they be scoring big bags of goodies and treats on the 31st, but, many attractions of the “scary” kind will be offered to the masses on and before the 2nd most lucrative economic holiday of the year, Halloween.
Halloween is celebrated annually on October 31st. It has roots in the Gaelic festival of Samhain and the Christian holy day of All Saints. This day is strongly associated with ghosts and goblins, witches and warlocks, devils and demons, and symbols like the jack-o-lantern, black cats and skeletons. This gives the holiday an ominous, dark overtone cloaked with mysterious connotation.
Halloween activities have evolved to include wearing costumes and trick-or-treating, attending costume
parties, ghost stories around bonfires, pulling pranks, watching horror films and visiting hellish, haunted attractions. Haunted attractions may vary from the authenticly genuine hauntings to the insanely horrific and deliberately theatrical. The Kansas City area boasts high marks in both the genuine and theatrical.
Theatrically, with one of the nations leading haunted house companies, Full Moon Productions, “The Edge Of Hell” is always voted an industry leader among its competitors and “The Beast” is picking up steam. “The Beast“, “The Edge of Hell“, “Macabre Cinema“, and “The Chambers of Edgar Allan Poe” are owned and operated by Full Moon Productions. Since its inception in 1975, Full Moon Productions has been one of the countries leading haunted house and entertainment development companies.
If a genuine, authentic demonic experience is what your flesh is craving, then a road trip, 50 miles northwest of Kansas City, to Atchison, Kansas might scratch that itch. Atchison sits along the western bank of the Missouri River, which also marks the Kansas-Missouri state line. The Missouri River is the familiar serpentine, northeast border of a Kansas map.
Founded in 1854, the city of Atchison has a rich history in industry and education. It is the home of the oldest Roman Catholic establishment in Kansas founded in 1858, St. Benedict’s Abbey and Mount St. Scholastica Convent. They are located on the grounds of Benedictine College. It is also the birthplace of noted American aviation pioneer and author, Amelia Earheart. But, most notably, it is quickly becoming known as the most haunted city in Kansas.
Due to the increased interest in the supernatural, places like Atchison are becoming hot spots for paranormal investigators and “ghost” hunters. Among the town’s sites of alleged other worldly activity are the Glick Mansion, the Waggener House, Jackson Park and even Benedictine College. Atchison’s most renowned haunt is “Sallie’s House” where one of its inhabitants was purportedly scratched by a spirit, on numerous occasions.
Despite the intense interest in the supernatural, most people want to believe “ghosts” are the soul of a dead person, a relative, friend or a disembodied spirit wandering among or haunting the living, when in reality, these “spirits” are demonic, in nature. Author, Vincent McCann with www.spotlightministries.org.uk, explains, “The Bible speaks about the reality of a spiritual realm inhabited by many supernatural spirit entities: “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” – Ephesians 6:12.
It also has a lot to say about exactly what such spirit entities actually are and what their purpose is. Interestingly, the Bible tells us that the ruler of this dark spiritual world, Satan, is the author of lies. Jesus said of this spirit: “He [the Devil] was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.” – John 8:44
There are those spiritualists, mediums or “ghost” hunters that believe the Devil doesn’t exist. But, if the Bible tells us that the Devil is the father of lies, what could be the ultimate lie that he could tell? That he doesn’t exist. French poet and translator for Edgar Allen Poe, Charles Pierre Baudelaire wrote, “…the devil’s best trick is to persuade you that he doesn’t exist!“. By making people believe this, he is free to operate unchallenged and unhindered. The real truth is that the Devil does indeed exist.
What most people contend are “ghosts” or “disembodied voices” are simply demonic spirits drawing men and women as far from the truth as they can. Ephesians 6:12 says, “This is not a wrestling match against a human opponent. We are wrestling with rulers, authorities, the powers who govern this world of darkness, and spiritual forces that control evil in the heavenly world.” People are easy prey simply because they refuse to accept the truth. When one hears an EVP (electronic voice phenomena) or is told by a psychic that they are connecting to the other side and their loved one wants to communicate with them, this is wishful thinking and a deception. “And no wonder, even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.” – 2 Corinthians 11:14
As reported by Vincent McCann, “The Bible explicitly forbids attempted contact with spirits that pretend to be spirits of the dead (Deut. 18:11). The Bible states that the dead do not have contact with the living (Luke 16:19-31). The reason for this is because such spirits are not spirits of the dead but rather deceitful spirits under the command of Satan. The Bible calls such spirits “demons”, “evil spirits”, and “unclean spirits”. These demonic spirits are familiar with the departed dead whom they seek to imitate. This is why they are able to supply people with intimate details of names, places, and facts. Indeed, Isaiah 29:4 calls such a spirit a “familiar spirit” (KJV).
“Satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe. They are unable to see the glorious light of the Good News. They don’t understand this message about the glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness of God.” (2 Cor. 4:4) The good news is that people do not have to remain blinded in the darkness. The Bible tells us that we can come into a relationship with Christ who is “the Light of the world” (John 8:12) and be free from the fear and control of dark supernatural forces.
God has given us all a choice and if we value our life and the lives of the ones we love, it might be wise to at least ponder or examine for yourself, what is being said, here. Why let someone or something control you when you can be free, and free indeed. John 8:36…”So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”
“Christ has freed us so that we may enjoy the benefits of freedom. Therefore, be firm [in this freedom], and don’t become slaves again.” – Galatians 5:1
Could it be that because one doesn’t have God, the creator, as their absolute, that their moral and spiritual compass is directionally skewed? Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.“
