It’s time to take a peek at what’s happening blues-wise around town this week! The weekend is a blur of festivals, with an ABS meeting as well!
Friday finds the Breeze Kings at Fat Matt’s. Tthe fabulous Francine Reed performs at Blind Willie’s, The Big Biscuit Band is at Chicago’s in Roswell, Graham’s Number entertains at Darwin’s Burgers and Blues, and Blues Gernearation is at Zuffy’s Place. Andrew Black, EB Tull, Lex Luther and Hobo Reid are at Henry’s Uptown in Acworth. The astonishing Truitt Lollis (see my article from last weekend) is at Sidelines Kennesaw, 840 Ernest W. Barrett Parkway, Kennesaw.
Saturday, The Atlanta Blues Society meeting is at Darwin’s in Marietta with musical hosts The Cazanovas. I am really sorry to miss his meeting (I’ll be at Summer’s Last Blast in South Carolina) but this is a perfect opportunity for you to go and join if you haven’t already. They will be raffling tickets for the Dr.John/Cyndi Lauper show at Cobb Energy Center October 12th!
Also on Saturday, The Stooge Brothers will be performing at the East Atlanta Strut at East Atlanta Village, on the corner of Glenwood and Flat Shoals Road. This is a free one-day street festival! The Stooge Brothers are scheduled from 430-5:30 PM. Later, they will continue the musical merriment at Fat Matt’s Saturday evening.
Heaven Davis will be performing at another free one-day festival on Saturday, A Taste of Chamblee in downtown Chamblee. Heaven is also scheduled at 4:30 PM, which festival schedulers must have decided is this year’s time for the blues.
As a break from the festivals, you can also catch Frankie’s Blues Mission at Hottie Hawgs Smokin’ BBQ in Atlanta.
Another day, another festival..this one is the first annual Constitution Day Festival in Marietta. Men in Blues will be providing musical entertainment!
Also on Sunday, Snake Legs will be at Fat Matt’s and Uncle Sugar will entertain as unsual at Northside Tavern.
Monday, start your week out with Jim Ransome at Darwin’s in Marietta and Deacon Brandon Reeves at Blind Willie’s, or join Uncle Sugar at Fat Matt’s.
Tuesday finds The Hollidays at Blind Willie’s and Little G Weevil at Darwin’s, while Fedora Blues take their turn at Fat Matt’s.
Wednesday, The Electromatics hold the stage at Blind Willie’s and Ross Pead is at Fat Matt’s at noon, while The Hollidays take over at Fat Matt’s in the evening.
Thursday, Chicago Bob Nelson comes to Blind Willie’s, Ross Pead is followed by Chickenshack at Fat Matt’s, The Breeze Kings are at Northside Tavern, and Donna Hopkins and Friends are at Zuffy’s Place.
That’s it for the gigs I know. If I’ve missed something blues-related, please add it to the comments!
