Raw Foodists in the Atlanta area are lucky enough to have three Raw Food Meetup groups. All three groups provide a place of community and support for those living or interested in the raw foods lifestyle. While raw foods are at the center of all three groups, all the groups have a different energy.
The first group is Raw Food and Beyond Atlanta (http://www.meetup.com/rawfoodresource/)and is based in Roswell. This group has been meeting since 2007. The group recently updated their name from Raw Food Atlanta to the current name in order to reflect their newest mission statement which is to encompass health and overall wellness in addition to the raw food lifestyle . They just held their first meetup this past weekend after announcing their new mission. The meetup was held at Arabia Mountain just outside the city of Atlanta. The group spent a couple hours hiking, finding some wild edible fruits and enjoying the sights at a scenic lake on the large granite formation of Arabia Mountain. The sun was shining and the air was fresh. After the hike, the group feasted on some amazing juicy fruits of melons, pineapples, oranges, peaches, mixed fruit salad, pears, apples and bananas. The new organizers of this group are Shannon Kilbourn and Sammy Mielcarski aka Dr SAM. Both are passionate about building a supportive raw food community centered around achieving extraordinary health as a foundation to live a more vibrant, passionate life.
The next group is Raw at the River (http://www.meetup.com/Raw-at-The-River/)and is based in Atlanta. This group has their next meetup scheduled for this Saturday October 1st at 5:30pm . Paul Nison a prominent raw foodist who has written several books including ‘The Raw Life’ and ‘Raw Knowledge’. Paul will speak on the topic of ‘The Daylight Diet’ which is his latest book. Paul just spoke to the group a couple of months ago and drew a large crowd. The group is excited to have him come back again to share more of his knowledge with them. Paul is an amazing speaker with valuable information to share. This is definitely a worthwhile event that you will be glad you attended. The host of this meetup, Paula Branson, is a very warm and caring individual who is certified as a Raw Food Chef and a Holistic Health Coach and will make you feel right at home .
The third meetup group is Alive at Life(http://www.meetup.com/Alive-At-Life/) which is based at Life Grocery and Café in Marietta. This group usually meets on the 2nd Sunday of each month in the café. They have a variety of topics to include speakers, raw food demonstrations, movies and social time. Life Grocery is a great resource for raw foods in the Atlanta area. The Life Café is one of the few locations in town serving raw foods and they even have prepared raw food items in the Grab and Go case in the grocery section along with a wide variety of raw food essentials and a raw bulk section for herbs, nuts and seeds. Ronnie Hudson who also works at Life Grocery is the host of this meetup. Ronnie is a valuable resource to the Atlanta raw food community and is a very kind lady whose light shines on those around her.
All three groups can be found at Meetup.com and they each usually meet once a month giving the raw food community in Atlanta a chance to gather, provide support and build community and relationships with like minded friends. If you are at all interested in raw foods and healthy living, check out one or all of these groups. None of the groups require you to be a raw foodist. Everyone is welcome from those who are just curious about the lifestyle to those who are long time raw foodists. Don’t be intimidated by the thought of having to prepare a raw food dish. A bowl of fruit is always a welcomed addition to potlucks!
