Do you want to take a running lunge at a $30,000 prize purse? Atlanta’s most lucrative 5K will be hosted at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Saturday, November 19, 2011 by CrossFit Sports Series.
Most of us have heard of CrossFit. If you’ve watched ESPN2 in the last couple of weeks, you’ve probably been enthralled by the divinely chisled physiques of those thousands of men and women who specialize and excel in daily feats of intense muscle confusion. Perhaps you or someone you know attends one of the several CrossFit Affiliate Gyms around Atlanta. Or, in the offhand chance that you have not yet heard of CrossFit, no worries– Registration is open to everyone.
Registration is available from CrossFit Sports Series. (Easy link.) Registration is currently $40 per person, whether you run individually or as a group. To qualify as a group, you must have at minimum ten adults (5 male, 5 female). Registration closes on November 17th.
The prize breakdown is as follows:
- $6,000 1st Place Male and Female
- $3,000 2nd Place Male and Female
- $1,000 3rd Place Male and Female
- $10,000 Top Team Finish
There is also a 5k Race Category for Children, ages 12 and under.
In-processing begins at 7:30am the day of the event, the Children’s 5K will kick off at 9am, and the adults will launch their race at 9:30am, with the Post Race Party starting at 9:45. At 11:30 there will be a Q&A Session with CrossFit founder, Coach Glassman.
Getting to 1500 Tara Drive, Hampton, GA 30228 from Atlanta is as simple as taking I-75 South to Exit 235 (Hwy 19/41) and driving approximately 14.3 miles until you see the megalithic raceway on your right.
This is a great way to test your mettle against people who expect to finish the 3.1 mile course in 15 minutes (sub-5 minute miles), but even if you don’t feel overtly competitive, it’s still a great way to spend a cool November morning.
