Austin day trips: Reimers Ranch Park

October 30, 2011

If you’re looking for a new scene for your weekend, check out Reimers Ranch Park. Only about 45 minutes west of Austin, it might not be considered a day trip by some, but with over 3 miles of hiking trails and areas for mountain biking, rock climbing, and fishing, you could certainly spend more than a few hours taking in the beautiful scenery. The park encompasses some 2.5K acres of nature along the Pedernales River in Dripping Springs, not far from Hamilton Pool.

The hiking here follows the river and takes you past some stunning views. You can catch a glimpse of turtles sunbathing on the river rocks, and a wide variety of native birds from the path, but be sure to watch where you’re going. Parts of the trail go through rocky terrain, over and around mighty boulders, so you might consider taking a walking stick for extra balance. Dogs are welcome as long as they remain on the leash.

Reimers Ranch Park charges a $10 parking fee per vehicle.
