The Georgian royal house was thrilled to announce the birth of an heir this week. His Royal Highness the Prince Giorgi Bagration Bagrationi was born to TRH Prince Davit and Princess Anna, their first child together. Princess Anna has two children from a previous relationship. Their newborn son is heir to the defunct throne of Georgia and completes the uniting of the two feuding families. Previous to this marriage there were two claims to the throne by the Mukhraneli and Gruzinsky branches of Bragationi dynasty. But once Davit and Anna, from different sides of the feud, married any offspring would put to rest the argument of who has the right to the throne. The wedding had thousands of people lining the streets and was covered heavily by the Georgian press. The relationship has not been without struggles though. It was widely believed that the match was arranged in order to move a restoration to the monarchy and got off to a very rocky start including divorce rumors within months of the wedding. But this birth may also signal that the couple may have worked out their problems and have they now a beautiful baby boy. Since their wedding there have been calls to restore the monarchy, should be interesting to see if those calls now intensify with the birth of an heir.
