Narcissism of the leaders can be a recipe for disaster in any national movement.
Pakistani Inter-Services Intelligence, Military Intelligence, paramilitary Frontier Corps must be condemned for their enforced disappearances and execution of countless Baloch activists, including teenagers, in Nazi style.
By the same token, one must condemn the Baloch Liberation Front and Baloch Liberation Army for killing unarmed citizens and political activists, including Punjabi settlers, Pashtuns and Baloch on a charge they are “spies.” What the Baloch militants do with civilians is also a crime against humanity as what the Pakistan military does – what is sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander.
One glaring example is the killing last April of Nazima Talib, assistant professor of mass communications at Balochistan University, Quetta. That cowardly killing was owned by Baloch Liberation Army.
The statement of the militant Baloch Liberation Army against my person in Daily Tawar newspaper Monday clearly shows these militant organizations have lost touch with ground reality. As I said earlier the American Friends of Balochistan, an organization that was launched in Washington DC after the assassination of former Balochistan governor and chief minister Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti in 2006, appreciated the patronage of Hyrbyair Mari for two years now, but as Martin Luther King Jr. said “There comes a time when silence is betrayal.”
When the hardliners led by Mr. Marri failed to condemn the killing of unarmed civilians and political activists when we requested him to do so, we refused to accept his patronage and withdrew our support too him. In fact, we found a callous disregard for human life on the part of militant organizations he is associated with. Enough was enough.
As we pointed out correctly, the hardliners did a lousy job in saving human lives. These hardline policies, based on the advise of a person based in Norway who favors killing political activists and one person in Quetta, will lead the Baloch people towards untold miseries and sufferings.
It is very unfair for us to sit in the safety of the West and issue bombastic statements that put the lives of Baloch youths in peril. Please note the statement of Mr. Marri when he was in Oslo, Norway. “”We are willing to accept bodies, but not slavery,” he said in an emotional statement. However, when a Pakistani television reporter asked him if he will lead the struggle from inside Balochistan more than a year ago, I vividly recall he said, “I am not interested in my name appearing in a martyrs list.”
I have absolutely no doubts about the courage and bravery of the Balochistan-based leaders of the Baloch National Front, but more is needed to succeed than simple bravery and chivalry. Their yeoman sacrifices are hidden from none.
The work and sacrifices of the Balochistan National Party, National Party and Baloch Republican Party along with of the valiant sacrifices of the brave and honorable Bijaranis and the Khan of Kalat Mir Suleiman Daud all have to be taken into account and respected. Just as now they have officially declared me on going on Pakistan agencies payroll, that has vindicated our stand that political opponents are being killed in Balochistan on a charge of being government “spies.”
Likewise in the international arena, the work of the Baloch Human Rights Council, Baloch Unity (Russia), Baloch Society of North America, Baloch Voice Foundation (France), along side the work of Mehran Baluch, Sanaullah Baloch and Noordin Mengal all have to be appreciated.
It is unfortunate the hardliners portray Mehran Baluch and Sanaullah Baloch who work at the U.N. Human Rights Council as “thieves” who have misappropriated funds.
I know for a fact that criminal elements have penetrated the guerrilla outfits. Such things have happened in many places in the world in the past and present. We are disgusted and outraged to note that mass killers and condemned criminals are being buried with honors draped in Balochistan flags. This is a clear sacrilege of the Balochistan flag. One example is that of the mass and serial killer Tariq Baloch, who later got disappeared and executed. There are many, many others like him.
These so-called militant brains, or may I say non-brains, please note “1- Arousing and organizing the people 2- Achieving internal unification politically” are extremely important in national movement.
As we have adopted the path of unification in stead of indulging in exclusionary politics, I am being accused of going on the payroll of Pakistani agencies. This means I should be killed in the manner of a traitor like so many other Baloch in Kech district. Organizations that claim to fight for national independence should do better and show more responsibility than issue Press statements in a haste against those who differ with them.
Pursuing a hardline policy meant describing international allies as “whores who are interested in mining business.” I am not going to name any names, in this connection.
There was a nonsensical debate over the right to self-determination versus independence. So much time, energy and resources were wasted with hardliners insisting over the vagabond term “independence” in prestigious institutions such as U.N. Human Rights Council where the acceptable term is right to self-determination.
I once again profusely apologize to all the stakeholders most notably the Balochistan National Party, National Party, the honorable Bijarani Marris, Khan of Kalat Suleiman Daud and all Diaspora organizations and individuals over my juvenile delinquency of pursuing the wrong, hardline policy until mid-September 2011.
I call upon all the respectable political and Diaspora organizations to support our works generously so we can continue to create awareness about Balochistan in Washington DC alongside other Baloch organizations and individuals.
Regardless of the childish statement of the B.L.A. against me, if the B.L.A. and B.L.F. want to have any credibilty in international eyes, they must make a vow they will open unconditional talks with the B.N.P., N.P., B.R.P., Khan of Kalat Mir Suleiman Daud and the honorable Bijarani Marris; they must unilaterally declare they will never touch unarmed civilians and political activists; they must issue an unconditional apology over the killing of unarmed civilians most notably Professor Nazima Talib, which was the biggest disgrace to Baloch chivalry and heroism in the annals of Balochistan history; they must vow to show respect towards the contributions of others and work with other Diaspora organizations and individuals; and last but not the least they must vow to show respect to the struggle for democracy and human rights in Balochistan, including elected institutions such as the parliament.
The most insidious and ominous aspects of them all is that two Baloch-based parties, National Party and Balochistan National Party, are the favortire targets on the B.L.F. and B.L.A. lists as Monday’s childish statement shows. Leaders and cadres of these two parties have decades of years of political experience behind them as they were rooted in the struggle against One Unit during dead general Ayub Khan’s days. On the contrary, the militants lack such political savvy and experience. On our part we shall help strengthen the political organizations and institutions in Balochistan, rather than becoming a party to gunning them down.
There are quite a few instances where Baloch youths who have objected to the tactics of the militants have been tortured and killed by them. People like Sattar Baloch, who were brutally tortured by the Pakistani agencies, are being hunted by the B.L.F. just because he disageed with the policies of the militant organization. When Sattar Baloch, joined the Baloch Republican Army he was dubbed as an agent of the Military Intelligence.
According to Balochistan observers the B.L.A. and B.L.F. are trying to project acts of terrorism as guerrilla warfare which is outright intellectual dishonesty.
I once again reiterate the militant organizations have neither the right to kill unarmed civilians and political activists nor the right to become judge, jury and executioner. I also take this opportunity to request all Baloch organizations and in fact all individuals of goodwill to please come forward and help and support our work here in Washingto n DC against terrorism in all its forms.
