The Drunken Intellectual presents his Best of Baltimore Beer Week, featuring his favorites from each day of the extravaganza. Today, we examine Wednesday, October 12th.
Local brewers have really stepped up their game recently. It seems everyone has noticed the explosion of craft beer around the country and responded appropriately… by making bigger and better beer. In that respect, the fine folks at DuClaw Brewing Company have made some serious strides in the last couple years, expanding their repertoire and introducing some serious, exceptional brews. Which is why this event makes the list: the First EVER Dual Beer Release at DuClaw.
In case you didn’t notice, the guys at DuClaw have released some big beers this past year. If nothing else, you may have seen the COLOSSUS, their 23% abv (alcohol by volume) monster. This was a giant of a beer, obviously, and set the standard for enormity in the Maryland brewing world. But on Wednesday, October 12th, they will be unveiling TWO new brews on the same night, for the first time ever. Starting us off is “31”, their Spiced Munich Dunkel – quite an interesting concoction. And then we have “Retribution”, their Single Bourbon Barrel Imperial Stout – which, knowing their exceptional history with stouts and barrel-aging, I am eagerly anticipating.
So make your way to any of the three DuClaw locations (Bel Air, Arundel Mills and Bowie) and experience these new brews for yourself. And don’t worry if you can’t make it on Wednesday – they will continue the celebration the following night as well.
Just try to keep it together. These beers take no prisoners, but the cops do… so find a designated driver, alright? Only looking out for you, boys and girls…
