Batman, Catwoman and a slew of Batman: Arkham City villians is the way to spend a weekend. Last weeks release date of October 18 has given the Video Game Vixen a bit of time to form a first impressions of gameplay, storyline, and graphics of the long awaited sequel to Batman: Arkham Asylum. What did you spend your weekend playing? With all of the newly released video games starting to overwhelm the casual gamer, you must take the time to choose carefully which games are shelf worthy.
The open world exploration of the darker side of Gotham City, in which the denizens of Black Gate Prison and Arkham Asylum hold sway, is amazing. The level of detail is awe inspiring. If Batman stands in the swirling snow the flakes alight on his cape, the glow of fire in the gloom, the texture of stone, brick and water; the graphics are everything a gamer looks forward to in playing an iconic game.
There are also many ways to play the game. Are you a stealthy Batman, an in your face “I’m Batman” kind of Batman, or a combination? There are the side missions that will test your skills in all areas but you can channel your inner anti hero in the most enjoyable way possible.
You will want to play many side quests, beat up many goons, knock out many cameras, and pop many balloons to increase your levels and experience points. You don’t want to follow the main storyline too quickly and not have the power to take down the Arkham City villians. Also, why would you want to finish too quickly?
The talented voice cast is extensive and varied with lots of video game credits under their belts. ***SPOILER ALERT*** If you don’t want to know which baddies are living in Arkham City read no further, skip to the last paragraph, move along!!

A huge cast of characters give Batman: Arkham City the full immersion experience!
So far there are a few things that are mildly annoying. Batman is a little chatty. Granted it’s only in his head and is intended to direct the gamer to the next mission. It does tend to pierce the illusion, though. Combat is great but if you turn on tutorials they don’t always stay active (a known glitch) and only one tutorial at a time is active. These tutorials pop up on the screen as you fight. If the Video Game Vixen can tune out these little annoyances so can you!
