If you are looking for something to do on a rainy day, the Museum of Fine Arts (MFA) in St. Petersburg, Florida offers astonishing art collections from antiguity to modernism. The museum was founded by Margaret Acheson Stuart (1896-1980) and has been opened since 1965. The exhibitions include ancient dramatic objects of artistic expression, fascinating sculptures, contemporary ceramics, stunning photography collections and masterpiece paintings by well known world artists.
In addition to the permanent collections, the museum is currently displayed special traveled exhibitions – Story and Symbol: Dutch and Flemish Paintings from the Collection of Dr. Gordon and Adele Gilbert, The New York School: Selections from The Gollay Collection, Sitter and Subject in Nineteenth-Century Photography, Four Portfolios of the Twentieth-Century: Archipenko, Gropper, Evans, and Doisnea and Theater in Ancient Art: The William Knight Zewadski Collection.
The upcoming collections will bring to life with Ancient Egypt—Art and Magic: Treasures from the Fondation Gandur pour l’Art (December 17, 2011 – April 29, 2012) and Forever in a Moment: Nineteenth-Century Photographs of Egypt (November 19, 2011 – April 10, 2012). The permanent exhibitions feature master works by Claude Monet, Berthe Morisot, Abraham Bloemaert, Georgia O’keeffe and more. From the Parliament, Effect of Fog by Claude Monet to the Poppy, 1927 by Georgia O’Keeffe, you will be inspired by many impressive masterpiece paintings.
