Christopher’s Bed and Breakfast, a ravishing 19th century former church, is an 8,100-square foot retreat with all of the original – and magnificent – stained glass windows and warming hardwood floors. Located across from Cincinnati in the charming old river town of Bellevue, Kentucky, the inn offers three guestrooms, each with a private bath with Jacuzzi and shower and gorgeous jewel-toned stained-glass windows.
The Governor’s suite has a four-poster king-size bed with pillow-top mattress, a living room and two private “his and hers” half baths and shower, plus a two-person Jacuzzi for languid soaks beneath an original pressed-tin ceiling, the majestic window providing the view. The two junior Jacuzzi suites have queen-size beds, also with pillow-top mattresses, as well as stained-glass windows and antique furnishings. The burgundy room has an air of cozy romance; the other sports a striking Art Deco motif.
Innkeeper Brenda Guidugli is an accomplished hostess who knows how to make her guests feel completely and immediately at home. She also knows her way around the kitchen. For breakfast, guests are treated to a perfectly seasoned and decadently cheesy dish that lives up to its name of “Absolutely the World’s Best Egg Casserole…Ever!”
Rising with a stately air in Bellevue’s Taylor’s Daughters’ historic district, Christopher’s Bed and Breakfast is a lazy stroll to the chef-owned eateries along Historic Fairfield Avenue, including Virgil’s Cafe, a neighborhood bistro with an upscale feel. Here you can opt for seating in the window fronting Fairfield Avenue and watch a street abuzz with activity. This one-of-a-kind shopping district is stocked both with made-in-Kentucky items and a hodge-podge of distinctive gifts, garden accessories and original art and boasts an old-fashioned corner ice cream and homemade candy parlor at Schneider’s Sweet Shop.
A quick mile down the road is Newport on the Levee, an entertainment complex that comprises restaurants – BRIO Tuscan Grille, Mitchell’s Fish Market, Claddaugh’s Irish Pub, Tom + Chee (an imaginative tour of grilled cheese sandwich varieties and tomato soup), plus bars, multiplex, bowling center, comedy club, Newport Aquarium – home to 11,000 creatures – and the Ride the Ducks amphibious sightseeing adventure.
Christopher’s Bed and Breakfast offers a number of packages that include tickets to Cincinnati- and Northern Kentucky-area attractions: Newport Aquarium, BB Riverboat Dinner Cruise, Cincinnati Museum Center. It’s close to plenty of entertainment, and just far enough off the main thoroughfare to feel like a haven for relaxed unwinding.
