Looking for Halloween happenings in Rhode Island and nearby Massachusetts that won’t scare little kids? From the Roger Williams Park Zoo Jack-o-Lantern Spectacular to the Providence Children’s Museum’s Boo Bash, there are plenty of things to do on Halloween weekend that don’t include Zombies carrying axes or bloody fangs.
Go trick-or-treating at Patriots Place, make Halloween arts and crafts at Bass Pro Shops, make your way through a corn maze and wind up your weekend at the Harvest Buffet at the Roger Williams Park Zoo before you view the stunning display of jack-o-lanterns.
Roger Williams Park Zoo Jack-o-Lantern Spectacular: Don’t miss this annual event that runs from October 6 – November 6, 2011. Open nightly from 6pm – 10pm. Take a look at over 5,000 amazing carved pumpkins, enjoy live music, games, pumpkin carving demonstrations and more. Find admission rates and parking information here. On Oct 29 and 30, kids in costume get in free.
Harvest Buffet at Roger Williams Park Zoo: Before you hit the jack-o-lantern trail, enjoy an all you can eat buffet on the Jambo Junction Serengeti Deck. The price of the ticket includes admission to the Jack-o-Lantern Spectacular. Enjoy buffet items including Butternut Squash and Apple Soup, Roasted Pulled Pork, Oven Roasted Turkey, CharBroiled Hamburgers, Grilled Hot Dogs, Crispy Chicken Tenders, Warm Apple Crisp Hot Apple Cider, Hot Chocolate and more.

Providence Children’s Museum Halloween Boo Bash: Games, hands on fun, arts and “witch crafts” and a mad scientist’s laboratory are part of this big Halloween party. Children should come in costume to enjoy the fun. Saturday October 29 from 11 – 2pm.
Patriot Place Trick or Treating: Head to the home of the New England Patriots for some free trick or treating fun. Get a free Patriot Place Trick-or-Treat bag, candy and enjoy activities like pumpkin painting (all while supplies last). Starts at 2pm on October 29 at the Patriot Place Activity Center.
Bass Pro Shops has plenty of Halloween arts and crafts activities for kids from October 28 – 31. Marshmallow roasts, trick-or-treating, and photos with the Peanuts gang and the ‘Great Pumpkin’ are also on the list of fun things to do at your local Bass Pro Shops. Corn Mazes: There are several corn mazes to find your way out of in Rhode Island. Try Johnston’s Salisbury Farm, the popular Confreda Farm in Hope and Escobar’s Highland Farm in Portsmouth.
