National Breast Cancer Awareness Month will soon be over, but the goal to raise awareness and funding isn’t. One such organization who says, Early Detection + Active Lifestyle = Best Prevention is Boarding For Breast Cancer.
Boarding For Breast Cancer (B4BC) is a non-profit, youth-focused education, awareness, and fundraising foundation whose mission is to raise awareness about breast cancer, the importance of early detection and the value of an active lifestyle. Founded in 1996 by friends of a woman named Monica Steward who had been frustrated with the lack of awareness among young women about the disease. Monica had been diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 26 and sadly passed two years later from complications.
Their goal has been to create events centered around their mutual passions, snowboarding and music, while communicating the message of awareness. In addition to hosting amazing events, they serve as an advocate for those affected with breast cancer, they teach awareness to empower those managing the effects of breast cancer, raise money for research and serve the action sports community and those who share a love for an active lifestyle through snowboarding, skateboarding and surfing.
Leading by example to motivate everyone to have an active lifestyle is evident in the activities they host on their Campus Tours, and events in snowboarding, skateboarding and surfing. They also participate in and/or have a presence at several events throught the country like at The Warped Tour, X Games, US Open of Surfing, Go Skateboarding Day and more.
In addition to events, on their site, they you to how to Self Detect, and that’s for women “and” men, they give you tips on prevention and if you wish to volunteer or be a part of their community you can find the information on their site as well.
