On your wedding day you don’t need to be covered head to toe with accessories but you do need a few key pieces to enhance your gown. Whether your gown has a lot of bead work or none at all you will still need at least a necklace and a bracelet to finish your look.
When you have a portrait or sweetheart neckline on your wedding gown you should always choose a necklace that will stop one inch above the top of the gown. The necklace should fall nicely in the center of the gown and have the ability to move freely but still lay flat against your chest. If your bodice is covered in beading then you should only wear a single pendant necklace that matches the beading on your gown but if your bodice is simple your necklace can be bold.
Keep in mind that even though your necklace is bold you still don’t want it to over shadow your overall look. Each accessory addition that you add to your wedding gown should compliment each other and enhance your look, taking nothing away from it.
If the neckline on your wedding gown is bateau, jewel or a one shoulder a necklace would not look good on those style. A strapless gown with a drop waistline or princess cut needs a tear drop necklace that resembles a subtle tiara. A wedding gown with a sheath silhouette needs a single pendant necklace that falls freely down the center of your chest and stops at the cleavage.
The style of your earrings will vary depending on not only your gown but your hairstyle and your necklace as well. If you have a subtle necklace with an up do then your earrings can be bold. Big earrings always flatters the face of every woman, elongates the neck and adds flare drawing attention to your face in a positive way. So if you want a dramatic earring keep your necklace subtle and vice versa, keep the earrings subtle if you want a bold necklace.
Deciding to wear a bracelet can be tricky, the bracelet should be fitted and not to loose on your wrist. If you have a sleeveless gown, quarter length sleeves or short sleeves then a bracelet will look great. Adding some color will be a nice touch as well, sometimes the bracelet can be the something blue, or you can even tie in your bridal party colors on your bracelet.
Any jewelry that you add should be tasteful and not overwhelming to the eye. Remember that less is best and simple beats out flashy any day.
