It’s that time again. The sixth annual Buns & Roses Romance Tea for Literacy will be held Sunday, October 9, 2011, from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Renaissance Hotel in Richardson, Texas.
Local author Candace Havens will be the Buns & Roses emcee again this year. Havens is the entertainment critic for the Dorsey Gang on 96.3 KSCS and a best selling romance author and writing coach.
This year’s Buns & Roses keynote speaker is New York Times and USA Today best selling author Jodi Thomas with 31 novels and nine short story collections. In July 2006, Thomas, a fifth generation Texan, was the 11th woman to be inducted into the RWA Hall of Fame. Most of Thomas’ books are set in her home state of Texas, where her granmother was born in a covered wagon. Thomas’ first book, Beneath the Texas Sky (1988), won the National Press Women’s Novel of the Year in its category. Many years and awards later, in 2011, Thomas won a RITA for Welcome to Harmony (2010) and the Booksellers’ Best Award for Somewhere Along the Way (2010). Thomas currently serves as Writer in Residence at the West Texas A&M University in Lubbock.
Other author hosts at the 2011 Buns & Roses are Fort Worth romantic suspense and paranormal romance author Nikki Duncan, urban fatnasy author and Texan Jaye Wells, New York Times best selling author Lori Wilde, and many more.
The annual Buns & Roses event is hosted by the Richardson Adult Literacy Center, whose mission is to transform lives by meeting the functional literacy needs of adults in the Richardson and RISD areas, and the Richardson Public Library. All proceeds go to Richardson literacy programs.
