In the 1980’s, I dined regularly at a delightful neighborhood restaurant called La Primavera, on Glen Cove road in East Hills Long Island. La Primavera was famous for their amazing standing long island duck, their quintessential caesar salad,
and the culinary artistry and charm of Elio the owner/chef. Over the past 30 or so years, we lost track of Elio and his
wondrous cooking. This week after learning of his newest restaurant Cafe Capriccio in Port Washington, we once again were enthralled and delighted with the fine food Elio was still creating at his new restaurant. Yes, Elio is a older, wiser, and certainly battle tested in the restaurant wars. The one thing that has never changed is his charm, kindness and skill which have remained intact over all these years.
Cafe Capriccio is located parallel to the Port Washington, LIRR station on Haven Avenue in Port Washington. The restaurant is bright, well lit and spacious. We were greeted by Elio and the years melted away, it was like returning to a long lost family member. We sat in one of the three dining areas in the restaurant and were treated to an extraordinary dining experience. Of course, after all these years, we had to try our favorite Caesar Salad, served on sparkling white china.
The salad was moist, and filled with just the right amounts of egg, anchovies, parmesan cheese and olive oil…Superb.
We followed this with two terrific entrees: Atlantic Salmon-Grilled wild salmon with olive oil over a bed of risotto. Delicate,
light and delicious.
Our other entree was our long lost favorite: Fresh Crisp Long Island Duck- Moist, Juicy, with a perfectly browned skin. with a sensational cherry sauce. This too was served with a generous portion of risotto.
For dessert- Elio served us his famous chocolate velvet cake– Chocolate cake with a fudge like consistency. Absolutely delicious.. We also tried Elio’s famous cherry tart delightfully light and adorned with cherry’s that literally melted in your mouth.
The new Cafe Capriccio is a wonderful addition to fine Italian dining on Long Island. Highly recommended to diners of all ages.
Super food, pricing, ambiance and fine service! Definitely make it a stop on your culinary journey on Long Island
