“The more you use it, the better you’ll get at it.” Well that’s the idea at least, as explained in Activision’s newest trailer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.
The “Weapon Progression” trailer takes a look at how the newest entry in the Call of Duty series will further establish its own unique multiplayer identity by looking at how players can further customize their own gameplay style through this new leveling system. Outside of the classic level progression, players can now level up and upgrade their favorite weapons in a whole new way. All you have to do… is use it.
The idea is simple – the more you use a gun, the better you will be with it. You’ll earn experience with that weapon which can then be used to unlock attachments and other upgrades. But more importantly will be the ability to “apply” proficiencies to that weaponry, such as decreased sway while aiming, faster melee attacks and even some that are weapon class specific. It’s a leveling idea that not only complements the new strike packages quite nicely, but it also just makes sense; the more you use a gun, the better you should be with it.
Aside from looking at weapon leveling, we also get a sneak-peak at some of the new weapons and equipment you’ll be able to use to blow your enemies away, such as the Bouncing Betty frag grenade or the PP90M1 SMG. The most intriguing new weapon out of the bunch shown: the EMP grenade. Granted it does the same thing to turrets as the concussion or flash-bang grenades did in previous Call of Duty games, but this grenade takes it one step further by shutting down all electronics in the detonated radius.
Imagine the devastation to your enemies when they simultaneously loose radar, laser-based reticules and their precious turrets?
