Today is National Pumpkin Day! So if you’re not sick of them already, today is the day to celebrate the world’s largest fruit! Whether you want to carve them, eat them or both, pumpkins are the quintessential sign of the fall season.
If you don’t have your pumpkins yet, head out to your local pumpkin patch. Bring the whole family and that includes the dog! Here in San Diego there are no shortages of pumpkin patches, corn mazes and hayrides for the whole family to enjoy!
Take a ride just outside of the main city, just north of Escondido to Bates Nut Farm. They welcome all dogs & even had a doggie costume contest! They’re open every day until Halloween and have a quaint general store called the “Farmer’s Daughter Gift Shop” on the farm, so swing by and get a pumpkin or two and of course some nuts (they are a Nut farm after all).

If you don’t want to trek out into the country, you should stop by one of the five Pumpkin Stations found all over San Diego County. Some are found in strip malls, complete with bouncy houses for the kids and two of the patches have hayrides to cruise through the countryside on, corn mazes to get lost in and farm animals to coo over! Parking and admission are always free, so stop by for a tour today.

Maybe you already have your pumpkins and haven’t gotten around to carving them yet, look no further! Why carve the same patterns everyone else has already done? Whether the furry friend in your home is canine or feline or maybe the kids just love puppies and kittens, here are some great, original and free Dog-Breed Pumpkin stencils and Cat-breed Pumpkin stencils to try your hand at. Also, don’t forget about your furry friend when you’re making the pumpkin pies for the rest of your family. Get in the kitchen and experiment with some recipes for Pumpkin Dog Biscuits and Peanut Butter and Pumpkin treats, as well as a Dog-friendly Pumpkin Muffin recipe to make some extra-special treats from all those pumpkins you carved.
There are so many things you can do to celebrate, so get out of the house, go on a hayride, carve a pumpkin or cook-up some treats the whole family can enjoy! Happy Pumpkin Day!
