Centurylink states that it’s “E-Rate is a provision of the Telecommunications Act of 1996, historically funded at up to $2.25 billion annually to provide discounts in four categories: Telecommunications Services, Internet Access, Basic Maintenance and Internal Connections hardware.”To be eligible for the E-Rate plan, participants must be a K – 12 public or private school, non-profit public library or adult education or juvenile justice program (depends on state rules and reglations.) Services that are available to these programs are:
- Telecom Services
- Internet Acess
- Internal Connections
In addition to the E-Rate Plan, Centurylink also provides grants for education through their Qwest foundation.Grants offered through the Qwest foundation are the Qwest Teachers for Technology Grants and the Qwest Go Green for Schools programs which aren’t available in the state of Louisiana.
Lifeline + Link Up
Lifeline + Link Up is a phone and internet plan designed to bring voice and digital access to individuals with low-income. This program serves as an important resource for the students with families whose income is low. According to CenturyLink, to qualify for this program, applicants must:
- Federal Public Housing Assistance
- Food Stamps
- Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)
- Income below 135% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines
- National School Lunch’s Free Lunch Program
- Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
- Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF)
You may also qualify if you are a resident on American Indian tribal lands and receive support from:
- Bureau of Indian Affairs General Assistance
- Tribally Administered Temporary Assistance to Needy Families
- Head Start or National School Lunch Program
