If you are a saltwater fishing enthusiast in the Charlotte area then you probably want to join the Charlotte Offshore Sportsfishing Club. The long-running club has a grand tradition which brings together Charlotte-area anglers who share a love of surf, inshore and offshore saltwater fishing.
“Charlotte is a long way to the coast so access to a local saltwater fishing club helps satisfy the fishing itch,” says member Craig Birchfield. “Beer, buddies and fishing tales on a Wednesday eve, good stuff.”
The Charlotte Offshore Sportfishing Club is a nonprofit family organization which meets the second Wednesday of each month at The Captains Galley on 11032 East Independence Boulevard in Matthews, NC. Members discuss saltwater fishing and often listen to guest speakers who share their expertise with the group.
The next club meeting is scheduled for November 9. Go here to get your special invitation to join this great Charlotte saltwater fishing club.
“I joined the COSFC to learn about saltwater fishing,” says member Gary Cales. “I had several fishing buddies that were already members and they were always trying new things that they had learned from the club. I really enjoy the meetings and especially the workshops. Learning how and where to catch fish is extremely exciting for me. Hearing fishing stories from others helps also.”
Although Charlotte has some great local freshwater fishing many area residents make trips each year down to the southeastern Carolina coast or even out to the Outer Banks to get in some saltwater fishing. Some folks take their boats and some like to fish off piers or in the surf.
“I became a member of COSFC in 1983 because I wanted to learn more about saltwater fishing,” says Vince O’Connor who runs the club website. “I have met some wonderful fishing partners that enjoy the same type fishing as I do and we have real fun catching more fish. Joining COSFC is one of the best things I have done to enjoy salt water fishing much more. Everyone at our club is willing to share their knowledge and experience and that is a great asset to all members.”
The Charlotte Offshore Sportfishing Club is open to everyone that enjoys any type of saltwater fishing. Prior to the 7:00 pm meeting is a social time for members to exchange stories and talk about their upcoming saltwater trips to the coast or new equipment or whatever topics come up. This is followed by a short business meeting and a raffle.Next, a guest speaker for the month makes their presentation.
