Warning, this article pains me in a way, never wanting to write a bad review, but this is ridiculous. I mention Brinker, only because this is a Brinker International owned restaurant. Prior to this visit we had ordered a Chili’s to go meal for two. Now as I realize that the economy is in grave times, but to reduce the amount of portions that are set by corporate standards is not the way to go. Having picked up the order and returned home, we found that the orders were lacking in portions for the money and food was over cooked or cold.
A combo menu with half rack of ribs and Monterey Chicken, ribs cold, chicken that was free range and beaten to death in the barn then shipped and cooked on my order. What looked like a number twelve scoop was used on the side portions instead of a number eight was lacking. For what it is worth, my wife’s Margarita Chicken, which she has loved in the past, must have been the other breast of my free range chicken.
I went on line and let Chili’s know of the poor representation of product that we had been served. Of course a few days later the general manager offered me apologizes and coupons. This was a nice gesture and we were pleased with the response, until we went back in person to use them. Having just come from a movie, we arrived at the restaurant which surprisingly was not busy for the dinner hour. Normally we had to park twelve blocks away and take a bus back, but this was not normal for this location. Maybe more people had to go orders also.
Many open booths and tables, but we still had to wait eight minutes to be seated, maybe they needed more than one host. We were seated and our server greeted us, five minutes later and asked for a drink and/or appetizer order. We ordered a couple of Margaritas and chips and salsa. Chili’s still has some of the best salsa, but this night they had the worst chips. Many stuck together, with grease floating in between, some were stale while some others were under done. OK, first mistake, told server, she replaced with better chips, enough said.
Now comes the worst parts, first, we were served our entrees, my wife again had the Margarita Chicken and would you not know it, that free range chicken had a free range family. We could have used that sucker for extra cushion for our sandals. I was in the process of eating ribs and some under paid prep cook forgot to peel the back fat strip off of them. Now while this was bad, the server was running around like the free range chickens, we finally slowed her down to let her know about the meal. She then took it back, let a manager know and guess what, we had finally killed off the free range family; they were out of chicken breasts.
My wife then asked for chicken tenders, which they had an abundance of. While having not managed a restaurant for years, I suggested taking the tenders and marinating them for the Margarita chicken and using them in other chicken dishes, server said she would pass that to the manager. Her comes the kicker, after all this the server is trying to clean and stock her area and makes sure we know how great a party she is going to and is trying to get out quickly. Ohhhh, Nelly, just shoot me now!
I wonder to this day if she even thought about the $1.00 tip left or the coupons, which would have alerted them we had a previously bad experience? Should have asked for change? Do we recommend Chili’s, not even if it is your last meal.
