French luxury house, Christian Dior debuted it’s Spring/Summer 2012 collection today during Paris Fashion Week. This will be the brand’s first collection since the not-so-graceful departure of former Creative Director, John Galliano. While the label is being tight-lipped about Galliano’s successor…the show must go on and has left in-house designer Bill Gaytten to design the Spring 2012 line.
The extremely safe Ready-To-Wear collection was featured on a long glossy white catwalk lit by LEDs. This Christian Dior line compared to those designed by Galliano seemed understated, demure, and rather underwhelming…yet, extremely well-made.
The models included Victoria’s Secret models Karolina Kurkova and Miranda Kerr. Kerr’s hubby Orlando Bloom sat front row for the show along with Gossip Girl’s Leighton Meester. The current it-girl of fashion, Karlie Kloss also walked as she seems to be a Christian Dior favorite at only age 18.
The big story, which unfortunately overshadows the collection is who will replace Galliano. “Show some patience!” replied Dior Couture chief executive Sidney Toledano when asked backstage if he was ready to appoint a new designer to replace the ill-fated designer. “We live in a world that wants things right away,” said Toledano, adding that Dior’s “timing is right” and that “you’ll understand when we announce it”. Well…alrighty then, I guess we’ll just have to wait and see!
