In light of the Kansas City School Districts problems (closing schools, financial problems, superintendent and district personnel leaving, loss of accreditation), lots of parents are looking elsewhere for their childrens education.
For the Christian parent, Larry Becker, Superintendent of Blue Ridge Christian School (BRCS) says that this Christian school at 8524 Blue Ridge Blvd, Kansas City, Mo 64138 is a viable alternative. The Bible verse the school favors is 3 John 1:4.
The Pre-K through 12 school is still taking enrollments, however for the 2011-2012 school year, financial aid is used up.
The schools vision is to try to prepare kids to carry the light of the Gospel, to be prepared to go tell people about Jesus Christ, whether it be in the workplace or classrom, and to develop character and leadership skills. Mr. Becker stated that after 34 years with the school as a teacher, coach, and administrator, what he loves about the school is seeing how the childrens’ and their families lives are impacted, and seeing a young child on the playground, watching him/her grow in Jesus Christ, and a few years later, handing that child their high school diploma.
It is BRCS policy that at least one parent have accepted Jesus Christ as Saviour, and that the family be involved in a local church.
Because the children come from Christian homes, the school provides a consistency not offered at a non-Christian school. There is no challenge to what the parent is teaching and enforcing at home, because the same values, standards, and convictions are taught at the school. This fosters a feeling of extended family at the school. Mr. Becker spoke of praying with a student whose grandfather had passed and another student whose parents were injured recently.
The school was profiled recently on kctv5 after being chosen as Wendys Cool School of the Week.
