A cook-off contest for the best adobo,a kiddie pop-star competition, non-stop entertainment of music and dance, and opportunites to win airline tickets and more await you at the 6th Annual Adobo Festival in Milpitas this Labor Day weekend.
The Adobo Festival, created by Joey S. Camins of JSCamins Productions whose primary goal was “to introduce and promote the best of the Filipino community to the rest of the world” is in its 6th year and has been going around Northern California every year, with its motto, “Celebrating Filipino Food and Music”. When it comes to Filipino food and music, it definitely becomes a huge celebration in the Filipino community. Included in the events of this annual festival is music and other entertainment, food and the cook-off competition.
Called “Adobo” festival because of the adobo cook-off as a regular component. Adobo is one of the most popular dishes of the Philippines. The dish is made with marinated meat or fish and is seasoned with garlic, soy sauce, vinegar and other spices. In most Filipino restaurants, it is commonly prepared with chicken or pork or a combination of the two. It is typically served with rice as the flavors and juices are rich from the adobo and the rice absorbs the sauce perfectly and is a great “balancer of flavors” and allows the dish to last, fill you up, and be enjoyed. Actually, rice is almost a “fixture” in all Filipino cuisine- it goes with everything.
Just 15 minutes from the Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport, this event is easily accessed and takes place both Saturday and Sunday. If you don’t want to miss the adobo contest, be sure to attend on Sunday. Here’s the schedule for both days:
