As if there weren’t enough reasons out there on how we get acne, here is another. Is it odd? Yes. Does it make sense? You decide.
What exactly are Demodex mites? (taken from Wikipedia)
Demodex is a genus of tiny parasitic mites that live in or near hair follicles of mammals. About 65 species of Demodex are known; they are among the smallest of arthropods. Two species living on humans have been identified: Demodex folliculorum and Demodex brevis, both frequently referred to as eyelash mites. Demodex canis lives on the domestic dog. Infestation with Demodex is common and usually does not cause any symptoms, although occasionally some skin diseases can be caused by the mites.
Demodex folliculorum and Demodex brevis are typically found on humans. There is some evidence linking Demodex mites to some forms of the skin disease like acne, rosacea and eczema.
From a chapter of the book “Unbelievable cures and medicine from China” talks about Professor Zhao Zhongzhou:
Acne disfigures, temporarily or permanently, some 130 million Chinese and countless other millions worldwide. Unlike most Western doctors, Zhao Zhongzhou believes the sole cause of the complaint to be a parasite called demodex. Eradicating its infestation of facial habitats, he stresses, is the essential step to give people blemish-free complexions.
Excerpt from demodexsolutions.com:
Zhao Zhongzhou is believed to be one of the first doctors in the world who is capable of eliminating spots wherever they might be, after identifying the sole culprit: a parasite called demodex.
Zhao, 67, has 40 years experience as a surgeon, initially in the People’s Liberation Army, then in a hospital as an enterprise, he invented Zhongzhou Ointment and is now the chairman of the board of directors of Kunming Zhongzhou Pharmaceutical Corporation Limited, based in Kunming, capital of southwest China’s Yunnan Province.
With an invention patent granted by China’s State Patent Office, the ointment wiped acne off the faces of 93.46 % of 107 patients who took part in a clinical test in 1985-86.
Now, more than 100 acne rosacea clinics have opened in China.
Zhongzhou ointment (which is also called ZZ cream by some in the states) completely eradicates the demodex mites, hence curing people of their acne, rosacea and eczema. For more information on Zhongzhou ointment and how to order it go here.
So if you’ve tried every treatment out there for your acne including diet change etc. and still are plagued with acne you MAY have demodex mites, but how do you know?

How can you test to be sure?
You can visit your dermatologist and he/she can scrape some sebum from your face preferably around the nose area and have a look under the microscope. You can test at home with an inexpensive microscope that is able to magnify up to at least 400X by scraping some sebum from around your nose area and diluting it in some vegetable oil (just a bit) and smearing it on a slide and having a look yourself. You can also pluck out an eyelash or an eyebrow hair and put that on a slide. Be sure to google what a demodex mite looks like so you know what you’re looking for.
If you test positive, trying the ZZ cream will give you results but initially your acne will get worse because as the cream starts to work it begins to kill the mites which will leave white heads, but the directions are to continue use at least up to 120 days and then you can use some for maintenance thereafter. If you test positive your mate will definitely have them too, so as not to transfer back and forth they will also need to do the treatment. Remember to always change your sheets regularly especially your pillow cases.
If you suffer from acne, this could be your answer to clear skin!
