Country and gospel music singer Loretta Lynn was in the hospital over the weekend with the early stages of pneumonia. Lynn, who is 76, was scheduled to perform in KY and N.C. but had to cancel the concerts due to her illness.
Loretta Lynn Recovering at Tennessee Home
According to a statement posted on Loretta Lynn Enterprises on Saturday night, “Doctors have diagnosed her as the beginning stages pneumonia, and will continue to need rest. Loretta is doing well and is disappointed but feels confident she will be ready for upcoming November dates.” An update reported Lynn was now recovering at her home in Hurricane Mills, TN.
Coal Miner’s Daughter
Loretta Lynn has a long history with Nashville and gospel music. Born in 1935 in neighboring Butcher Hollow, Kentucky to a coal miner father, Lynn entered Nashville’s country music scene in the 1960s charting the first of her 16 number 1 hits in 1967. The song that became her signature song was “Coal Miner’s Daughter.”
Her music including edgy songs that were frequently banned from country radio as well as gospel albums including “Hymns” in 1965; “Who Says God Is Dead!” in 1968, and “All Time Gospel Favorites” in 1997.
Hurricane Mills, Tennessee
Loretta Lynn has a home in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee, which has become a tourist attraction called “The 7th Largest Attraction in Tennessee.” Lynn’s ranch features a plantation home and a replica of Lynn’s Butcher Holler cabin, as well as a recording studio, museums, lodging, and other attractions. It is there Lynn is recovering from her illness.
Country Gospel Music Hall of Fame
Loretta Lynn continues to tour and has received numerous awards in country and American music throughout her long career. She was inducted the Country Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 1999. She is scheduled to perform November 3 in Knoxville, TN.
