There are some good grabs right now in Central Texas at local Dollar General stores using coupons that are days away from expiring. While it is fulfilling to send away expired coupons to the overseas coupon program, it is also a great feeling to use a last few of your stash before they lose their value to us civilians. (The deals discussed in this article were discovered at the China Spring location.)
One such coupon that this Examiner is newly enamored of is the suave kids BOGO deal. With hectic mornings readying a 5 year old for school, there seems to be far less time to comb out unruly hair. Dollar general sells their Suave Kids like for $2 right now. For a whopping total of $2 a shampoo/conditioner combo cleanser was purchased as well as the busy mom’s Holy Grail—detangler!
There is also a phenomenal CoverGirl coupon floating around due to expire October 31. This coupon is for $8 off 2 cover girl products. Dollar General has their CoverGirl blush and mascara on for $4. This Examiner was able to scoop up 1 black eyeliner, 1 black mascara and 2 shades of blush for completely FREE—and we all know, free is even better than cheap!
Two other items were discovered on this trip and are now added to this couponers favorite long-standing deals. Dollar General has smaller than normal packages of fruit roll ups and fiber one bars for $1. This is not a ‘sale’. These items are this price all year round.
The fruit roll ups come with 4 per box and each box also contains a Box Top for education. While some couponers may not agree with taking into account the value of Box Tops, this Examiner does. It is simply a product by product investment into the local school district. There is a current coupon for 50cent off of 2 boxes of fruit roll ups. Normally this coupon would be used on a bi-weekly grocery trip towards the purchase of 2 regular sized and higher priced boxes. In this instance $1.50 was spent on 2 boxes of 4 fruit roll ups making the per item price a staggering low of only eighteen cents. In addition to that twenty cents from Box Tops will go to the local district. If that is taken into account, then the final per item price minus school donation amount is sixteen cents!!! This couponer can live with THAT!
The Fiber One bar deal was also appealing. The boxes sale for $1 and there are 2 bars per box. At first glance this seems to be very high—50 cents per bar. However, there is a coupon for forty cents off one box. Therefore, each box costs sixty cents—making each bar thirty cents.
Some other products snagged with expiring coupons were Betty Crocker cake and icing (on sale), Tressemme conditioner BOGO (regular price), and mentos.
Overall this couponer was able to spend $25 on $53 worth of product and 80 cents worth of Box Tops! That always feels good!
Happy couponing and make sure to check your binders for those expiring deals on your favorite products!!! To read more about this Examiner’s coupon excursions visit Boobie Babble.
