The Hart of Dixie pilot very clearly set up a potential love triangle between Zoe Hart (Rachel Bilson), Wade Kinsella (Wilson Bethel) and George Tucker (Scott Porter) right off the bat. We don’t need to tell you; you all watched when it premiered last night. RIGHT!??? But the love triangle between George, Lemon Breeland (Jaime King) and Lavon Hayes (Cress Williams) was not one we saw so obviously. So now that it has been introduced, we needed to know just how much the show would explore it and the ultimate quint-angle (?)…uh five-some (?)…complicated relationship entanglements that comes from it!
“They have a history together, and they still have an attraction. They’re very, very sexy together!” Hart of Dixie creator Leila Gerstein dished to LA TV Insider Examiner when we caught up with her earlier this month at the Paley Center for Media’s CW fall preview.
That is undoubtedly true, but how long can Lavon and Lemon keep their secret? Obviously the audience already knows more than, say, George or even Zoe, but one of them is bound to find out soon to raise the tension, right?
“We’re going to be ahead of George, but it’s not a soap opera, and it’s not going to move like Gossip Girl. Everything in the south is a little bit slower!” Gerstein previewed.
But slow is just how the actors, namely Williams, likes it.
“The relationship between me and Lemon– mainly for the writers and the producers themselves, they really want that to work out!” Williams told us. “And I hope that’s the way the audience feels.”
Besides, even Gerstein had to admit that Lemon might be an acquired taste for some audiences (as she is with some characters) initially. So it will take some time to get to know her and eventually come to fall in love with her, too, let alone come to understand her.
“I think that you actually really feel for her, even after the end of the second episode. You start to see her pain and all of her layers and everything. You know, she starts as the nemesis, and she doesn’t have a lot to do in the pilot, but she becomes a main character.”
Lavon may “get” Lemon in a way no one else does because of the history they share, and the fact that he is befriending the new girl in town, Zoe, may not sit so well with Lemon at first, but it’s not out of jealousy that he has a wandering eye, according to Williams.
“I’m the only guy– I’m the only person in the town who likes her but doesn’t want to sleep with her!” Williams smiled.
That can’t last long; this is The CW, after all! But Williams did share he had his hands full with Lemon for the time being. Too much so to turn his attention to greatly to Zoe. You can check out what else Williams said about working with these lovely ladies in our video chat to the left.
Hart of Dixie airs on The CW on Monday nights at 9pm.
