- Step 1: Get Rid of Super Mom Syndrome!
This is a faulty title any ways. Since when can a woman use the restroom and do the dishes, all while reading a bedtime story to her children? Never. It cannot physically be done. So don’t focus on the impossible, your family will be much happier that you do what IS possible. Know that you are doing every thing you can with what you have been given at this very moment in time.
- Step 2: De-Clutter Your Mind
Ok, Ok, this sounds difficult, which is understandable. So read along with me… Imagine yourself on an island, with lush green landscaping and piercing blue water surrounding you. Not a sound other than the wind blowing through the trees. Now take a few deep breaths and every time you exhale push out all of the tension your holding. Now imagine again, your back on that beautiful island, but this time, add your children and significant other (if you want to), now what sounds are there? Joyous, playful ones! Ok, ok, in a perfect world they would be playful sounds. These simple exercises are effortless, and nowhere near time consuming, but really can bring your blood pressure down and help relax you. By de-cluttering your mind you can start fresh many times throughout the day so that you don’t make your self crazier than you already are!
- Step 3: De-Clutter Your Bathroom
Although this doesn’t sound exactly fun, it is truly rewarding at the end of the day. Clean up your bathroom during your daily rituals so that at the end of the day you have a nice relaxing room to go to. Make every shower an escape from reality; it’s a simple thing really. Add a few candles and a CD player or radio. Then put on some tunes to drown out the background noises, light a few candles and turn off the harsh overhead lighting. Then, voila! A normal shower just became relaxing. As well as a special treat for my readers, That Smells So Good, is a local – Safety Harbor produced – relaxation shop! Darryl See, the owner, specializes in sweet smells and calming sensations. If you are looking for some amazing candles for that nice shower we spoke about, give him a call. [I suggest the wood wick candles, they burn forever and smell SO good!]
Last step, but the most important one…
- Step 4: Get a Good Night Sleep
This is the hardest of all 4 steps I assure you. If you can get roughly 6-8 good hours of sleep a night you will be primed and ready for what the day holds. You actually burn quite a few calories while you sleep too. So if losing those few extra annoying pounds is something you think about, try getting to bed 30minutes earlier than normal. Your body will thank you in the morning! Here’s a fun little calorie calculator, let’s see how many calories YOU will burn while sleeping tonight!
