Well, the first snow has of the season has fallen on Denver, and you know what that means: Halloween!
Of course, among the many Halloween celebrations happening in and around town all weekend are plenty of great live music events. Below is just a sampling of the great live shows going on in Denver this weekend. Some of these weekend picks are Halloween-themed, and some are just great gigs; but all of them promise a great time. NIGHTMARE ON BLAKE STREET
On FRIDAY NIGHT, Summit Music Hall in downtown Denver is hosting “Nightmare on Blake Street,” a special Halloween party featuring live music from My Body Sings Electric, The Pirate Signal, Eldren, Shoot to Please and Valedictorian. Tickets are $8 advance, $10 day of show (or $8 at the door if you wear a costume), available from Soda Jerk Presents. Summit Music Hall is at 1902 Blake Street. Doors at 7:00 PM. This is an all-ages show!
DEVOTCHKA HALLOWEEN WEEKEND SHOWS
As is their tradition, local indie-folk band DeVotchKa is headlining two Halloween weekend shows in the Denver area. The first is FRIDAY NIGHT at Ogden Theatre, 935 E. Colfax in Denver, with Churchill as the opener (tickets $34.75, doors at 8:00 PM, Ages 16+). The second is SATURDAY NIGHT, the “Zombies v. Vampires Show” at Boulder Theater, 2032 14th St. in Boulder, with Ending People as the opener (tickets $42, doors at 8:00 PM, ages 21+). These DeVotchKa shows tend to sell out, so get your tickets early—at press time, both shows are still available.
“COMMUNION” U.S. TOUR STOP AT SOILED DOVE
Communion, a UK-based indie-folk artist community co-founded by Ben Lovett of Mumford and Sons, is currently debuting a national tour in the United States, and is making a tour stop FRIDAY NIGHT at Soiled Dove Underground, 7401 E. 1st Ave. in Denver. The tour features Matthew and the Atlas, The David Mayfield Parade and Lauren Shera. Tickets are $12-$15, available from Soiled Dove. Doors at 7:00 PM; show starts at 8:00. Ages 21+.
KATIE HERZIG AT LARIMER LOUNGE
Singer/songwriter Katie Herzig is headlining an early show FRIDAY NIGHT at Larimer Lounge, 2721 Larimer St. in Denver. Opening the show is Butterfly Boucher. Tickets are $12 advance, $15 at the door, available from Larimer Lounge. Doors at 6:00 PM; show starts at 7:15. Ages 21+.
SLIM CESSNA’S AUTO CLUB AT BENDER’S TAVERN
Local alt-country-goth band Slim Cessna’s Auto Club is headlining a Halloween weekend show SATURDAY NIGHT at Bender’s Tavern, 314 E. 13th St. in Denver. Also playing are The Limbs and Saturn Cowboys. Tickets are $18 advance, $22 day of show (plus service charge), available from Bender’s Tavern. Doors at 8:00 PM; show starts at 9:00. Ages 21+.
DONNA WICKHAM/ART LANDE AT DAZZLE
Attention jazz lovers: On SUNDAY NIGHT, Dazzle Restaurant and Lounge is hosting a dual CD release show for Colorado jazz artists Donna Wickham and Art Lande/Dave Petersen. Tickets are $10, available from Dazzle. Show starts at 6:30 PM.
HALLOWEEN AT SOILED DOVE WITH J.C. BROOKS & THE UPTOWN SOUND
R&B group J.C. Brooks & the Uptown Sound will headline for a Halloween party MONDAY NIGHT at Soiled Dove Underground. Opening the show is local act Petals of Spain. Tickets are $10-$15, available from Soiled Dove Underground. Doors at 7:00 PM; show starts at 8:00. Ages 21+.
HALLOWEEN AT BLUEBIRD THEATER WITH AIR DUBAI AND THE EPILOGUES
Two of Denver’s hottest bands, Air Dubai and The Epilogues, are co-headlining a Halloween show MONDAY NIGHT at the Bluebird Theater, 3317 E. Colfax in Denver. Also appearing are ManCub and Monroe Monroe. Tickets are $15 plus service charge, available from Bluebird Theater. Doors at 7:00 PM; show starts at 8:00. Ages 16+.
