Everyone needs a detox. Imagine being able to apply a body oil daily that not only moisturizes, but also is detoxifying. Who would have thought it could be so simple? Many things are much more easy than they appear. Our skin is our body’s largest organ, and is one of the most important organs of elimination making it the best place to begin. The state of our skin tells a great deal about the condition of one’s body. If a toxin can not get out by way of urination or defecation, it tries to get out the only way left; which is our skin. A great way to start is to use a body oil containing sweet almond oil and some essential oils great for skin and detoxification, with a base of Aloe vera gel applied to the skin.
Aloe vera grows widely here in Arizona. It also makes a great houseplant. Aloe vera can also be purchased at many local nurseries. Alternatively the gel is also sold at health food stores. The leaves can be cut, and the gel can be squeezed out and applied directly to the skin. Aloe vera gel is an incredible healer; it speeds up healing, and stimulates the immune system. It is specifically an excellent skin healer, it is soothing, moisturizing, cooling, and softens the skin. Aloe vera gel has been known to reduce acne, stretch marks, and varicose veins. It is rather cleansing and can even kill fungus. Aloe vera gel also assists in drawing the essential oils into the body. The gel of the Aloe vera plant is the first step to our process.
*Step one: Apply Aloe vera gel to the entire body. Be certain to massage it on.
Sweet almond oil is an excellent carrier (or base) oil for blends. It is very gentle and moisturizing, it is good for sensitive and also for aging skin. The essential oils in the blend include: Cedarwood, Grapefruit, Lavender, and Cinnamon oil. Cedarwood was chosen because it stimulates circulation which brings fresh blood and nutrients to the surface, and carries away waste. It allows for more flow in the body, cleans the system, and releases toxins. It also is very cleansing, and can kill bacteria, fungus, or viruses. Cedarwood oil is very beneficial to the skin, it can even reduce skin inflammation, acne, and blemishes. It tones the whole body. Grapefruit essential oil was included for many beneficial reasons. It also improves circulation, in addition it balances body fluids, is purifying, and also stimulates skin metabolism. Grapefruit is energizing and uplifting to the mood. This essential oil can help relieve fluid retention, tone oily skin, decongest pores, and eliminate toxins that cause cellulite. Grapefuit is a great essential oil for treating lifeless skin, cleansing the kidneys, and acne. It also acts as an antioxidant and preservative in this oil blend. Lavender oil was added because it is very rejuvenating and healing to the skin. It also tones and balances the skin. Lavender oil is soothing and calming, and is a very powerful wound healer. It is good for aging skin, and it also relaxes and warms muscles. Lavender oil can also kill bacteria, and viruses, and is quite reviving to the skin. Cinnamon oil, only to be used in very small doses, is the last addition. It is a stimulant, which is great for the purpose of detoxification. It can ease muscle ache, stimulate circulation, and stimulate skin. Cinnamon oil can kill bacteria, fungus, as well as viruses, and can even act as an after shave. This essential oil also helps lifeless skin. These hand picked oils are excellent for our purpose.
*Step two: Mix in a bottle:
1/2 Cup sweet almond oil (assure it contains no fragrance)
8 drops Lavender essential oil
6 drops Cedarwood essential oil
5 drops Grapefruit essential oil
1 drop Cinnamon essential oil (assure no more than one drop!)
*Step three: Shake it up.
*Step four: Massage onto body
The importance of massaging it onto the body is that it increases circulation even further, loosens tight muscles, it enhances lymphatic flow (circulation of lymph nodes), which is very important for detoxification because our immune system relies on the lymphatic system for it to be able to funtion properly. The essential oils are then drawn into the body because their molecules are small enough to penetrate the skin, and they also dissolve in oil which allows for them to absorb more easily. Manual friction to our skin opens pores and the essential oils are transported by the blood stream to the areas in the body they are needed.
Have fun blending and moisturizing, and enjoy having such an easy way to detoxify. Be sure your essential oils if purchased elsewhere do not contain any fragrance, and be aware that quality is very important. Smell your oils, you really can tell a difference based on how they smell what kind of quality they are. Feel great and have silky smooth skin! Beauty at its finest.
