It’s that time of year again for Baltimore Humane Society’s annual doggie extravaganza! DogFest 2011 will take place at the BHS on Saturday, October 15, 2011 from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. The event is $10 and features games, contests, prizes, pets for adoption and more!
Events include canine contests such as Best Trick, Best Costume, Best Kisser, Owner Pet Look-a-Like and many more. There will also be demos and presentations celebrating Pit Bull Terriers! For the full event schedule, click here. But it’s not all about the pups! Cat rescues will be on hand with adoptable cats and kittens and there will be several booths dedicated to our feline friends.
The BHS is expecting 8,000-10,000 pet owners to attend this year. This community event encourages pet owners and families to attend and enjoy this special day to honor their pet, and also to create awareness regarding preventing animal cruelty in our community.
In addition to BHS, there will be many other Rescue Groups on hand with adoptable pets and information such as Adopt-a-Boxer Rescue, Charm City Animal Rescue, Jasmine’s House, Maryland SPCA, BARCS and more! If you or your company would like to be a sponsor of the event, there are many options available. To learn about the sponsorship levels available, click here.
All proceeds from the event benefit the animals at the BHS. The rain date for this event is October 22. To register for DogFest, click here. For more information on DogFest 2011, visit dogfest2011.org! Keep reading about Pixie and Ninja, two adoptable pets available at BHS that need homes!
Pixie is a 11/2 -year-old pit bull mix who was originally found as a stray and was taken in by a nice woman who had her spayed and then brought her to BHS so she could be adopted. Pixie will need an energetic family to adopt her and she really likes people and loves to get belly rubs and go for walks. Pixie is a nice dog who loves toys and who just needs a home with some patience, training and love.
Ninja is a 1-year-old, tabby cat who was brought to BHS with her three kittens because no one could take care of them. She is still pretty scared being in the shelter, so please be patient with her as change is hard for everyone! Ninja’s adoption fee is $105. To inquire about adopting Ninja, visit the BHS today!
The Baltimore Humane Society has many animals currently available for adoption! To view their full list, visit www.bmorehumane.org and select one of the adoption options (Dog, Cat, Rabbit or Other Small Pet). The BHS is located at 1601 Nicodemus Road in Reisterstown.
Baltimore Humane Society is operating at full capacity due to record high relinquishment of dogs and cats. Please spread the word that the BHS has many wonderful dogs, cats, rabbits and other small animals who are waiting for loving homes. If you can’t add another pet into your family, then encourage your friends and extended family OR SPONSOR a pet. Adoptions are down and surrenders are up.
The BHS is in desperate need of several necessity items! Laundry detergent, dishwashing soap, blankets, sheets, comforters, canned or dry dog food – adult and puppy (Science Diet preferred), canned or dry cat food – feline andk (Science Diet preferred), kitty litter and latex and non-latex gloves.
