Dominic has been chosen to be Spokane’s cat of the day. Dominic is a black and white domestic shorthair who always looks dapper in his stylish suit. He is sturdy, strong and masculine, weighing in at 17 pounds—all muscle. His eyes are a handsome almond-yellow. His legs are vigorous and strapping. Dominic dominates, thus earning the nickname Dominator.
Dominic was adopted on December 13, 2010. He was hanging around his new home for over two months, watching, studying, and then finally making a decision to move in. He walked right through the cat door, ate out of the cat dishes and made himself at home on his new owner’s bed. He appeared to have a home already. He was neutered, appeared well fed and was tremendously clean. At first he’d flee out the cat door when he saw the big person walk towards him, but as it grew colder outside, he decided to trust her, at least a little.
He didn’t like the other cats though. He’d walk towards them, bullying them, calmly studying them as they ran from him. Then he’d strut away proudly. When he was out on his own, he had to fight for even the tiniest amount of food; he figured in the house, he had to do the same. However, this behavior earned him a literal time out. Out the door he’d go until eventually he learned there was enough for all.
Dominic likes to sit on the front porch, guarding the house, keeping strange cats out of the yard. He loves the sound of the doorbell and will come running whenever it rings.
Dominic’s favorite food is 9 Lives tuna and egg and Fancy Feast Chicken and Turkey. kibbles. He also loves egg rolls and ham. His favorite toy is a catnip filled gold fish. He also loves catnip–a wee bit too much. When his owner goes outside, he watches her possessively as if to say, “You are mine.”
