San Diego based Donovan’s, a family of restaurants known for steak houses in San Diego and Phoenix, Arizona, has announced Chef Kemar Durfield as the Executive Chef and General Manager of the newest restaurant in the Donovan’s family, Donovan’s Prime Seafood located in the famed Gaslamp Quarter.
“Chef Durfield is incredibly talented, with an extensive background in fine dining, and we are thrilled to have him at the helm of Donovan’s Prime Seafood,” said owner Dan Shea.
Formerly the Chef de Cuisine for the highly acclaimed restaurant Addison at the Grand Del Mar Hotel, whose team was appointed membership to Relaix & Chateau by the celebrated Chef Thomas Keller, Chef Durfield is poised to make a tremendous impact on Donovan’s Prime Seafood, as well as the Gaslamp Quarter’s dining landscape. His vision for the restaurant lies in creating a unique experience that celebrates American-style seafood, at its finest culinary and artistic level. It is Chef Durfield’s mission to elevate Donovan’s Prime Seafood to one of the most celebrated dining destinations in the city, and savvy San Diego foodies will no doubt delight in his new menu creations.
Chef Kemar Durfield brings to the kitchen table 23 years of extensive fine dining experience. Prior to Addison, Chef Durfield worked in such illustrious positions such as the Executive Sous Chef at VU at the Hyatt Gainey Ranch, Executive Sous Chef at Aqua at the St. Regis Monarch Beach Resort and as the Executive Sous Chef at Mary Elaine’s at the Phoenician Resort. Throughout his career, Chef Durfield has had the pleasure of working with many celebrated chefs including James Boyce, William Bradley and Michael Mina. He is a graduate of the Scottsdale Culinary Institute and was inducted into Relais & Chateaux in 2011.
When he’s not doling out delectable bites, Chef Durfield finds passion in volunteering his time at his church, as well as mentoring young and aspiring chefs. His charitable activites include everything from lessons in cooking techniques to dining out with his students and experiencing new cuisine. Chef Durfield describes himself as an ever-aspiring chef, noting he’s always open to and seeking new skills and talents in the kitchen. Additionally, he enjoys outdoor activities such as biking through Bay Park, snowboarding and sailing.
