The DPD contained, then defused, a situation involving a gunman with potential hostages on the city’s west side Thursday afternoon. The subject surrendered to officers at about 7:00 PM yesterday evening without a shot being fired.
The drama began when an agent of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives tried to serve an arrest warrant on the subject at a home at Cheyenne and Puritan shortly after 4:00 PM.
The subject saw the agent coming and dashed inside the house with a female companion in tow. Reportedly, there was a second man inside the house at the time.
The subject had at least one weapon.
The DPD set up a perimeter around the house, bringing in a SWAT team and warning neighbors to stay indoors until the situation was resolved. With two potential hostages in the house, DPD negotiators began working with the subject.
After several hours, the subject first released the woman and then surrendered to police.
No one was harmed in the incident.
